I attempted my first build this morning. The one question I have right now that someone could help me with is did I use enough cotton? As far as the wire gauge I forgot what my son told me when he dropped it off and I cant read the label. It is reading 0.7 ohms and wrapped 6 times. Sorry I am not as detailed as some descriptions. I will take any tips, one is I know I should spend more than 5 min doing these, Thanks in advance

A 6 wrap 2 ID 26G should bring you to around 0.7

With an RDA, as long as there is enough cotton to bring the juice from the bottom of the well to the coil, it's good.

Did you check for hotspots before wicking?

Yes, I did check. He made sure to explain that to me and from all the reading I have been doing I kind of of expected it on the first build. He doesn't use this wire except for emergency. He wants it back. What wire is suggested.

Could be more centered, but it'll vape. Make another just like it for the other side. 5 mins for a nice simple coil is good.

I did have trouble getting it centered. I plan on making one for other side. I might have to wait until I get home to do it. For some reason they are expecting me to do things at work today. Imagine that. HA.

:gaah:I hate when they act like that. :giggle:

Just make the outer leg a bit longer. Won't be long before you'll be able to make it the proper shape and just pop it in.

Looks like the center positive post hole sits a little higher that the negative posts, if so the leg of coil which on the bottom should go into negative post, upper lead should go into center. Need to align the coil with air flow, etc.

As for wire suggestions...
26 gauge kanthol is easy to work with, and good for a start. Looks like it's what you have there. Some people prefer stainless steel because they can taste the kanthol, but I can't taste a difference. SS has a lower resistance compared to K, so you may want a higher gauge if you go that route.

I like Temco wire. Made in the good ol' USA and you can get a damn near lifetime supply for about 7 bucks on ebay. I agree on the 26g kanthal suggestion. It's a good starting point for basic dual coil builds. Maybe get some 316L SS if you want to dabble with temp control on that Pico too.

Thanks for the tips. I will eventually get the SS wire. I want to mess around with the TC on both my Pico and Alien. Thats for another time. I have to get these coils correct first. Second and third attempt didnt go so well. I am having trouble with how much cotton. I either have too much or not enough.

Don't worry about it. It'll come with time and practice. The main thing is that there is no set way. Try a bunch and find what works for how you like to vape. For me, the hardest was getting consistent between both coils when it came to wicking density.
