It's been a long time since I had a unregulated mod. I got one at the beginning of this year. And it's a geek vape Athena squank mod. Right now I've been running a dual Eric Clapton stair case pre built coils. On a 3015 mah 18650 high ohem life battery. What gauge of wire and brand would give me the best cloud with food flavor and how many wraps?? I remember some of the basics.

Also, do you have an ohm reader or a regulated mod that you can use to test the resistance of any coils you build? It's a must to have one or the other, because it isn't safe to put an untested and unknown coil on a mech mod like the Athena. That mod has no protections, so you have to do your due diligence on both the battery and the coil.

In general, here's what I like.
Please, though, do your own research and try to stay safe. Can only offer opinion, preference, as a general "guide". Don't ask questions that seek to define "best". "Best" will always be elusive because it is subjective. What you think is best I may find worse, and so on.
- Kanthal wire at 26 awg.
- Coils wound up 5 to 7 wraps around a 3 mm mandrel.
- This gives me a decent range for a single coil at 0.30 to 0.50Ω, and that in general ought to keep you relatively safe on a single cell 20 amp+ 18650 battery mod.
- It produces good vapor, flavor I find. You may not get Cloudz Brah style clouds each time, you do get at least modest clouds. Not a cloud or flavor chaser, I vape to get the nicotine mainly.

Use steam engine. Basic formula 3.2 v / .1 = 30A your limit is .1 no less.
For wire you need to consider 1 18650 is low on power. Ramp up time is dependent on 2 things.
1. The mass of the coil
2. The resistance of the coil.
Fun fact if you reduce the gauge by half and cut the wraps in half your mass will still double. More mass = more watts, lower resistance = more watts. You want a coil that uses all your available amps.
the truth is you cannot use basic wire wraps on this device. At 28AWG for a .1 build the number of wraps is .5. You want your coil to have a width of 1-.5 cm. In order to do that you need a wire with diameter .5mm with 20 wraps to produce 10mm. There’s no configuration you can make that will give you a .1 with 1cm of coil width.
I am not yet familiar with how aliens or claptons effect resistance but I know many pre-mades are .15 ohms. The mass of an alien will be much higher than just wrapping wire so I suggest you find a .1 alien with low mass maybe a .5 cm width coil. Then I suggest you use nichrome instead of kanthal.
Nichrome has a specific heat capacity of 420 J/kg*K where Kanthal is 639 J/Kg*k. The higher the heat capacity the longer the ramp up time. Nichrome has the lowest heat capacity.
