I haven't caught up with the threads "over there" in a while, but I did install the 3.0 Presa firmware today. I'm not 100% sold on the font but it's working just as well as the VTC mini so far. I have a 24 gauge .27 ohm 316L coil in a CLR head and it's running great. Thanks for the tag! I just found your post (even though I was late to the game).Did you get your Presa update yet?
I tagged you in a thread "over there" just before I crashed last night.
Spaced coils do work in a goblin mini, although there isn't a lot of space to work with. I have a Ni200, 30g, 8 wrap, 3mm ID coil in mine right now. I used a fine thread machine screw as a jig, and it worked beautifully.I use stainless contact coils in temperature control without a problem.
I've read people have problems with resistance floating all over the place when they try.
I found that is not in the coil but in the connection. They need to be screwed down, then used, and then screwed down a second time.
That said, I still would prefer spaced coils. But those don't work in a goblin mini.
Dude... seriously?
Glad to see you back. It's pretty great, and it even works with twisted SS wire. You can easily set up custom TCR values for any kind of wire now. SS temp control is the only way I use my VTC minis. I like it so much I got a second VTC, a Presa, and a Cuboid. Seriously, you should give it a try. The latest firmware update is the best one yet.holy crap i havent been on here in a while. stoked to see a SS upgrade for the VTC. i think i only did the first two upgrades.
how is the new SS setting? anyone using it?

I just recently switched to SS from ni200. I think you will like it.thanks. just caught up in this thread. looks like ill need some SS wire. ill do the update tomorrow i think.
also looks like ill need to read up on SS wire a bit.
It's super easy. The default SS setting is for 316 so that's a great wire to start with. 316L is very popular and works well. Many people like 26 gauge but 24 & 28 are also popular. I prefer cooler vapes at pretty low watts. Running SS in temp control or power mode, 26 and 24 gauge seem to give the best flavor, even at low watts (16-30w). The ohms for most single coils come out fairly low compared to kanthal (.4-.6Ω), but the VTC can run it at any power level. I've found that the most trouble free stainless steel coils for TC on the VTC have been spaced coils. They work great every time.thanks. just caught up in this thread. looks like ill need some SS wire. ill do the update tomorrow i think.

Finally got to change the coils. Spaced it and resistance is 0.53 ohms. It works a lot better now. Thanks for the tip! Better vapor production, better taste, wicks a bit better, and protection doesn't interfere too early.Glad to have a new vaper on the forum. Welcome aboard.
Try using spaced coils if you're going for temp control with SS. Aiming for a slightly higher resistance is also not a bad idea. Builds that are around 0.4 ohms or higher usually work consistently well, although lower ohm builds will work. I mostly recommend trying spaced coils. Some people have gotten stainless steel contact coils to work in temp control, but many people have had no luck with them. If you give it a go please let us know if it helps or not.

You can find a huge selection of SS wire types and sizes at Fasttech for cheap. The selection is staggering. If you have questions please ask away.
Exactly right. You can heat SS wire as much as you like, just like kanthal. It's completely safe run it in normal power mode as well as TC. I always run it in TC mode. Cooler vaping temperatures suit me and it stops dry hits. When it comes time to rewick you can safely dry-burn stainless steel clean and wick away. It has nearly replaced all my other wire. Really hope you enjoy vaping on it. Yeah, Lightening Vapes is always my first choice for wire too, but they didn't have any SS when I was first shopping for it. So happy they're carrying it now.so yeah ill be trying SS wire soon. just need to order it. probably get it from lightning vapes. im running their Ti now and like it. although it still needs to be cleaned fairly well even though it looks clean. the first coil i made from it off gassed like crazy when i first warmed it up. so from what ive read so far on feedback of using SS wire is that there is no worry about over heating it? is that right? does it not oxidize at our temps or what?
damn i totally derailed this thread. my bad. back to the VTC... i love mine to death, but it finally failed on me yesterday. basically when i went to change the battery the top magnet came out of the body and stuck to its mate on the cover. then i noticed the plastic that houses the magnet was cracked so i grabbed some glue and fixed that. glued the housing back together and then the magnet back into its slot. working fine now. even thinking about getting a grey one. the price is really great for such a versatile device. joyetech really nailed it with the VTC IMO.
of course... (from memory)... 3clicks of the power button to bring up the menu... sorry but i'm not using one now... if you can find your way to display the puff counter and have it flashing... holding down the power button alone will reset it to zero. - I sold my user (v3). it's been a while, but it's easy. Whichever mode you're displaying at the bottom of the screen... if you know enough to cycle through the different display options; battery, amps, puff counter, etc... when the puff counter is displayed & flashing - just hold down the power button until it resets. Is there a way to reset the puff counter on Ver. 3?
