New RDA - Can't Decide

I pretty much exclusively use RTAs, but after getting into DIY I've decided to get an RDA for flavor testing. That being said, I'm not just after a small flavor chaser. The need for a tester is just what pushed me over the edge, I'm sure I'll use the hell out of it so what I really want is a good all around kind of thing.

After some browsing I've narrowed it down to two, but I'm definitely open to suggestion from those of you who are undoubtedly more experience with RDAs than I am. The Twisted Messes 24, and the Buddha Z V3 25mm. I had my heart set on the Buddha until I looked into the TM 24.

As far as the Buddha goes, I love the looks. It's well proportioned, and the design of the airflow looks really cool in addition to being functional. The airflow options are another great thing about it. It's got the 42 hole AFC and top airflow, so it can be throttled way down or opened WAY up. Lastly, the velocity style deck. Being an RTA guy I'm more than familiar with it, and really like it.

The TM 24. Two big things with this one. The diameter means that it'll fit my G2 without overhang, and I use the G2 at least 50% of the time lately. The other thing is the deck. While I love the velocity style, this one looks awesome. I've never been a fan of the four horizontally aligned post holes, but the fact that the two positive terminals are on one side rather than in the middle makes this style really versatile. Use two outside holes for huge builds, stagger for medium, two center holes for small. I've also been doing flatter, wider builds lately so the vertical grub screws would be nice. Aesthetically I'm not crazy about how stumpy it is, though I'm sure that adds to the flavor.

So there's that. As I said I'm open to suggestions, but I need to put it out there that I'm not feeling bottom airflow. Already researched and ruled out the Kennedy and Tsunami.

It'll be about another week and a half before I order, so I'm hoping to reach a decision I can be confident in by then. Thanks in advance for any advice!

It looks good at first glance, I'll definitely be looking into it. How's the airflow?

I'm always happy to hear someone ask about switching to RDAs then get pissed when they say naaa it's just for testing.
But anyways if you get a good one you will finally understand what's the deal with RDAs and why we still use them.

The Petri V2 is a good options and if you're willing to try a different kind of deck I would also recommend the Goon.
Most of my latest purchases are bottom airflow but since you don't like it I won't go there.

that's true. if you want something like that, either the Limitless or Azeroth since they're quick & easy to swap wicks & you can drip on them to get what kind of flavor you have

Thanks for the feedback y'all.

While flavor testing is what's finally driven me to get one, it's by no means the only time I'll use it. That's why I'm not going super cheap, though next time I place a FT order I'm definitely gonna have to pick up a few cheapies to experiment with.

I'm gonna look further into the Petri and Goon, and I'll check out the Pharoah. Hadn't even considered it. The narda is interesting, even though it's not quite what I'm looking for I may end up checking it out further down the road just for the flavor.

I appreciate all of the suggestions and will look into all of them. That being said, no one's mentioned the Buddha 25 or TM 24. Are they that far outclassed by the other options? I'd really like to get some feedback on the Buddha. I can't find a single review on that particular one.

After much deliberation I've decided on the Goon. Does anyone know of a good deal? I may just order from 528 Custom's website if I can't find a significantly better price. I'd like to get the titanium posts anyway.

I think 528 customs have set a firm price for the Goon. U wont regret it, enjoy!

Personally I'd take the pharaoh over the goon. Same style deck but easier to build on cause Springs, deeper juice well, better airflow, no leaks.

I have the Narda rda on top of my Lost Vape squonker (the 75w one). I vape at 35 watts and the flavor is great. Now I had to drill the 510 out but if you are not squonking don't bother. Thew Goon is now on my Satan (the brass Goon). I much prefer the Goon to the Pharaoh. But it is not a flavor rda. Narda is way better. The best flavor is probably the Petri or the Tug (not the V3 - the V1.5). I have a lot of attys. I've tried a lot of attys. In all honesty if you can afford the genuine Petri that is the best rda made ... and get the cloud cap if you want to change it over from pure flavor chasing.

you also have the rafale X with its removal able neutral post. which opens up a whole lot of play the only con in my book is how the air flow is but that is personal choice.

They brought out a 24mm petri mech so probably they will soon ;)
Figures. I'm pretty much set on getting a VT75 Nano shortly after the Goon, and a 24mm Petri would be just the thing to prevent my bank account from recovering from this most recent onslaught anytime soon. If I didn't DIY I'd stay broke.

Looks interesting. I agree about the airflow, but at that price it may be worth trying out.

Haven't heard of it until you mentioned it. Don't really see it though TBH. For best flavor IMO you need bottom airflow. It's also small and the clamps have an odd shape which means it's only for 1 coil max. Can't do a dual. It still looks good though just not as good

Yea its more of an Single coil flavour rda, Its got some kind of bottom airflow atleast the air should travel underneath the coil.

i would recommend the NarDA clone or Goon 22 clone and maybe pick up a coppervape bf mod. then you'll have the RDA experience with a 10mL tank sitting underneath the RDA. :)

Chokeslam, we seem to have similar tastes. Found this thread at random but just got the TM24 in the mail today. I've been a die hard goon user for a while now. Both 24 and 22mm. They are great rda but to me the TM really has everything I like in an rda.
The clamps on the goon is simple but if you want smaller more simple builds it makes it more time consuming to align coils. The TM has holes so it makes it easier for me to push and pull coils over and just about as simple as it gets for all builds besides a velocity deck.
the way the TM is designed really promotes side/bottom airflow compared to the goon which is almost the same but U'd have to move the coils up and would have longer wicks. And from what I've found bottom airflow has been great for flavor.

I was really blown away by the overall design on the TM after using it. when looking at it, it looks so basic and boring. My goon is on the back burner till I can put this rda through its paces but so far it seems to have replaced it all together.

Well hell. I just spent a good chunk of change on the Goon and a set of titanium posts. I was really close to getting the TM, opted for the Goon mostly for aesthetic reasons. I'm not too crazy about the gold. I may go ahead and pick it up in a few weeks anyway. How airy is it compared to the Goon?

The Fumytech Cyclon is excellent and does not break the bank

authentic-fumytech-cyclon-rda-rebuildable-dripping-atomizer-black-stainless-steel-25mm-diameter.jpg

Under coil airflow (optional side airflow too), top cap flips open for easy drip although there is plenty of room to drip through the drip tip anyway. Very well made. Velocity deck version also available (Cyclon VT). Large drip well, everything is smooth and tolerances are perfect on all parts. Thick chamber walls so it doesn't get red hot in 3 hits. Great design, well made, priced realistically .....ding ding ding ...win!!

Going from holes to the cyclops, you would think there would be a difference. I'd say they are about the same as far as air flow goes. You wont be disappointed with the goon. I still love it but like the TM a hair more.

A little modification and I made a moonshot 24mm driptip adapter for a goon. The most comfortable driptip I have ever used.

what did you use for this?

I took a goon driptip and attached it to my drill and slowly cut off excess with a woodcarving blade. It's basically a hollow friction fit tube with some ridges to lock in the tip.

I attempted it thinking I would just mangle it up but it turned out pretty good.

So, update.

I've been using the Goon for a couple of days now, and it's probably one of the most satisfying purchases I've made in a while. The draw is smooth and quiet, there's just the right amount of resistance with the airflow wide open, it's so nice to throw a build in and not have to straighten everything back up after tightening, and the build quality is outstanding. The main thing for me, though, is reliability. This applies to RDAs in general, but this being my first one it's getting the love.

For various reasons my patience has been pretty much nonexistent lately and my building, and more importantly, wicking has suffered. I've got a boat load of RTAs and they've all been in various states of disassembly because I've had to rush through the building process and haven't had a consistently satisfying vape in a few weeks. Enter the Goon. A simple spaced SS fused clapton and a no frills wick job, and there it is. I keep a screwdriver, collapsible scissors, and a pad of cotton in the little bag it came in, and I don't have to worry about any catastrophic failure and time consuming repair. Once I get one of my RTAs going again I'll still be taking the Goon with me everywhere just in case. Assuming any of them even hit the spot anymore.

Thanks for all the recommendations, I think I'll be looking into a few more of them soon.

the Pharaoh gets my vote as the bets flavor RDA plus it's really easy to build on with the spring loaded clamp system

Doesn't look appealing to me. Doesn't look like 2 coils could fit properly, sharing a wick isn't ideal, especially with really hot builds.

1 coils gives great flavor but 2 works pretty dam good too. This is a dual 3mmID Fused clapton SS 316L 8 wrap build and the flavor was amazing.
