I want to get into DIY to cut the costs of my vaping habit. I've already done some preliminary research into where to get my nic base. I've already found that it is best to avoid starter kits price wise. My questions are primarily about flavors. When ordering my first batch where should I go? Should I order from a couple of brands and dabble in all of them or should I stick with one to try to master a particular brands flavorings first? Should I look up some other members recipes and order based off others successes and then dabble with what I order for those recipes to start making my own? Or should I just jump in head first and just order what sounds and looks good that has decent reviews?

The research has been kind of overwhelming when it comes to flavors, so I'm asking questions that I haven't seen before. Rather than asking about specifics (except brands feel free to throw good brand names at me, I'm already aware of flavor art and tfa though) I'm choosing to ask more generally about where I should start, simply because it is pretty easy to get information on specifics just through google and searching these forums.

Before going crazy buying stuff, head over to the recipe forum and pick out a few recipes that look good to you. You can't go wrong with anything by HIC. Then buy sample sizes of the flavors those chosen recipes require. You can get a nicotine sampler from Nude Nicotine for the cost of shipping. This way you haven't wasted a bunch of bucks if you find DIY is not for you. Here's to your success!

I was in you're exact boat several months ago.

Biggest advice I can give is find a recipe you like and order those flavors plus some that you think you might like in small portions first. Then you can weed out the ones you don't like and go from there.

FA has very true fruity flavors and are nicely concentrated so you use a lot less (usually around 3-5%) as opposed to other brands (ranging from 5% and up).

Just don't get discouraged if your first few batches come out .... funky xD keep at it and you'll eventually nail down the flavors.

A couple of stand alone flavors I run to as my quick mix and vape are FA cantaloupe at 4% and FA lychee at 3%. Both very true to flavor and oh so good.

Hope this helps

Good suggestions from these guys. Depends completely on your flavor profile. I went into it thinking I was going to clone some stuff. Nope. Turns out, most of the recipes listed have been even better than what I thought I wanted to make. Sample sizes are a good suggestion. You'd be surprised how long a sample will last.

I like FlavourArt (FA) first, then The Flavor Apprentice (TFA), Cappella's (CAP), Inawera (INW) and Nature's Flavors (NF). There are others out there, and a lot of DIYers here for any questions you run across. My nic preference is Vaperstek Throat Hit nic. Good value and pretty mild throat hit. Clean tasting.

Thanks guys! I'm thinking that is the way to go then is to order flavors from other recipes on the forum that look good and then start mixing from the flavors I get from that. Defo going with sample sizes until I nail down my flavors too, I was surprised how much many mls the sample sizes come with to experiment with!
