Hey all,
So I am an old hat to vaping, though I just got good gear a week ago. Previously I had been vaping on shit. But thats ok, it kept me from smoking for over two years! Anyway the flavor I get from my Nautilus tanks on my MVP 20w is amazing but I keep reading that the flavor you get from a mech mod and and RDA is even better!

I was skeptical about building for a long time, it seemed way to technical and a little dangerous to me until I watched a boatload of videos and read a lot of guides. I think I am ready to walk into that world. I can't afford the big stuff, the authentic stuff. I have settled on an Infinite Magma clone, and after I get that I will probably also get a Freakshow, and a Mutation X2. However the problem I am having is finding a mod. Clones are everywhere! They run in price from $15 to well over $100 and I just don't know what to get.

So I turn to you VU, what is a good cloned mod for under $40?

Thanks!

Thanks for the mod idea, bookmarked for consideration as for the Veritas, that was initially on my list, loved the reviews on it until a kept reading something like this "There is a downside though – this thing is really hard to build on and not just for beginners." I have never built a coil in my life. So its still in consideration and when I am more experienced I will probably grad one, but for now its in the maybe later pile.

Thanks for the recommendations!

yes the veritas doesn't use the traditional coil method. it's why I didn't X out the magma. learn on the magma and then use what you learned and apply it to the veritas. start off with one mod and one atty. learn and upgrade. I don't have a magma but I believe you have to unscrew the cap to drip.

The Marquis is basically an improved Veritas. Much easier to build. Just FYI. Also, maybe look at the SMPL mod. Fasttech has some for cheap. I like the $19.xx stainless version. Good luck.

One of the nicest clones I have is a copper Vanilla mod. They have great build quality and
can be found everywhere. If you replace the spring with magnets from Fat Daddy Vapes, it's
almost better than the authentic.

I have to add the tobeco Manhattan or Apollo are great no lock ring to get stuck or week spring issues and I would go with the copper and it can handle any build you wanna throw on it

Also the mutation x v2 by tobeco is amazing the guys at my local vape shop bought one after comparing mine to their authentics but you can get the authentic for around 30 bucks

So many options for a rda but if you are new to building I would look for one with a dual center post... the T looking center post that has two holes in it instead of the single hole center post.

Just makes life simpler as you don't have to fumble with both coils at the same time while locking down the positive wires.

A mod without a lock ring that you can forget to tighten every time you set it down is my preference (fuck lock rings).
Like the smpl or surfrider, many others with the recessed button design.

I have had the surfrider clone for months and the button is still magic. Super easy to keep clean and running well.
Both smpl & surfrider have a hybrid top cap like eric is suggesting to go with the nemesis. That is the way to go imo, atomizer positive pin direct to the battery, zero loss in that part of the connection.

You do have to make sure your atty's positive pin extends past the 510 threading or you will short out. Most rebuildable atty's are designed that way now. But that will limit you as most of the older designs like kanger tanks and others that you can just replace the coil heads positive pin does not extend and will short. They are designed around the old school way with a top cap with a pin in between the atty and battery.
You most likely won't be using those after using a rebuildable though and they are for many reasons just not a good fit for a mech mod.

Here's my two cents, best machining I've had from a clone mod by a long shot. Near zero voltage drop (less than a majority of copper mods out, scratch... all mods) and low maintenance stainless steel tube/brass button.
Excellent longevity/life and performance from the button. Magnetic button. Recessed button. It hits all of my wants from a mech.

I agree with fq06. The right ss mod will have low voltage drop. Copper and brass are too soft for duty as a persons only mech. Those metals are ok for additional mech purchases, but I'd personally get a good ss mech first.

My wife had a ss nemesis that required constant adjust ment to keep running but it did look cute in 350 mode with an orchid I had an overdose which hit hard but turned me against lock rings forever seems like every time I go to my vape shop someone is coming in with a stuck lockring guess I'm just partial to the Amerivape clones now
