Any RTA with a velocity deck on it, simply because it's so easy to build on. Just about any of them are really good and you can't go wrong!!! I use the Griffin myself and I love it. It's not to big and has a really good sized build deck to build on. Good luck to you sir.

The griffin is a good basic one to start with?

I feel like it is. One of the most popular ones out there. I have 2 of them, one black and one white and I really enjoy them both. You can build good sized double coils to go in it and it will hit like a champ!!!!

What features are you looking for?

Single or dual (or ability to do both?)
Open or tight airflow?
Budget?
Size?
Any other features you would like?

The one thing to know is that wicking is the biggest difficulty in RTA's. Finding one that's easy to wick would be recommended to start. Making coils takes a little practice as well but you can vape on less than perfect coils. But, if you don't wick right you'll either get dry hits (too much or poorly placed cotton), or have the juice simply leaking right through the system (not enough or again poorly placed cotton).

There are a few different styles of wicking. The Goblin Mini (i'd get the v2 at this point) has a very easy wicking style that it shares with the Diablo RTA (one of my favorites). Likewise the Boreas is probably the easiest wicking I've dealt with, sharing the style with the Aromamizer and Aromamizer supreme. The Griffin is a more standard style of wicking, I wouldn't say hard but might not be as good of a start. If you're ok with a beast sized tank the Boreas would probably be the easiest to start, huge deck and easy wicking (though refilling has a process you need to follow). If you want something a bit more compact the Diablo RTA is great. Hardly your only options though.

(If you do go with the Diablo, if you want adjustable airflow the smaller size clone is your go to, the larger size has no adjustment option).

I got the Griffin as my first RTA. As with any new endeavor in vaping there is a learning curve. I just rebuilt my Griffin last night and have a dual twisted 28gx3 kanthal build with 3mm id coils. It reads at .22Ω and the flavour and vapor production are amazing. Was pretty easy to wick and had no dry hits. There id's an awesome 12 minute wicking tutorial o.k. wicking the Griffin o.k. YouTube that I followed to the letter and now I will be able to get a great wick every time I think. Ben very happy with this RTA.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Hi John I would recommend the Wismec Theorem RTA or the Smok TF-RTA "G2".
The Theorem utilizes Notch coils which could make building a bit easier and notch coils are available from Wismec and Joyetech at the moment.

The Smok TF-RTA "G2" is a better option then the "G4" I presume. The Smok G2 is a 4.5ml RTA and it has a velocity style deck and juice flow control. The G2 comes with pre installed claptons as well but you can do your own single or dual coil builds with it.

You can find both of these for a really good price at this online vape shop

Hope this helps! Good luck!

1 boreas
2 aromamizer supreme
3 griffin 22mm
Those are the best imo. Haven't used a griffin 25 so can't judge it. But you'll be very safe with the 3 tanks I listed all are reliable great tanks

As good as the Theorem is, it's just too small of a tank. You can take 15-20 drags, and you'll have to refill it.

Another option for a good RTA, would be the Billow V3.

Hell with the build I just got for my Boreas it's the same thing even with a ~6mL tank! :D

Another +1 for griffin 22mm. It is more forgiving than some of the other rtas for wicking, as well as a good build deck. Got a .2 ohm dual clapton build vaping at 65 watts. Very dense and flavourful.

Only thing I hate about it are the damn screws and the wrong sized allen key that comes with it. Try to get a better tool for it, or they strip very easily.

Wish they offered some nicer hardware.

first off ill say im a mororn when it come sto rta
i go tmy first rta in dec. it was a crius. I love it and it was easy to figur eout
then i got a griffin 22 a few weeks ago and its even easier to use the the crius

so i would highly recommend it

heres some things to know about the others people are recommending like boreas
its a 25mm diameter tank so if your a stickler for your tanks not sticking ove rthe side of your mod make sure you have a big enough mod for a 25mm tank. .

Also the boreas has some issue swith leaking when filling. its not the easiest to fill w/o leaking. but if you read up on it youll fin dall the info here on the forum.

regardless of which one you settle on, read up on them here, watch you tube videos of how to wick

Boreas filling is easy, just you have to do it. Flip it and shake it around a little to get the juice out of the bottom portion. Close the air/juice flow, flip it back over and fill, then open up the juice/air flow and vape. Just have to keep that cushion of air at the bottom to keep the pressure in the tank right.

right as opposed to a griffin which is open the top cap fill, close top cap. no messing around with afc or jfc no flipping etc.

i didnt say it was impossible or takes a PHD to do it. just not the easiest to do. And being the OP is completely new to RTAs its important to point things like this out imho

Yeah I hear you, just felt it was worth outlining as I wouldn't use a term of difficulty but just that it has an extra step or two.

tell me more.....

When I went shopping my top 3 were Griffin, Boreas, and Billow v3 but there doesn't seem to be much buzz about the Billow. I like the look of the Giffin, and the beasty-ness of the Boreas, I cant afford all three right now as I've blown my vape budget for the next 2 generations of my family, but I'm curious, what IS the one RTA to rule them all?

I am waiting a few weeks for the Herakles RTA-2, without the 2nd set of air holes under the posts. Supposedly late May for US release.

With the exception of the Cyclone, Sense has not yet released a dud.

I have the G4, which is a horrible deck. The G2 looks fine. Two things to note: It's a huge atty, but only holds 4.5ml, and the jc spins just by looking at it wrong, lol!

Tell me more about your preferences. What type of power do you vape at? Single coil or dual? Are you wanting a 25mm RTA like the Smok? Are you wanting one that holds more juice because it's 25mm?

If you like the Griffin, also take a look at the Augvape Alleria. Now, take this with a grain of salt because I've been designing RTAs with Augvape, but I feel the Alleria is good for newbies because of the glass chimney. It gives you a visual on how saturated (or dry) your wicks are.

However, don't just take blind recommendations. Watch reviews, read on forums and other sites with reviews. That can help you narrow your choice of what best suits YOU.

And bear in mind, not every reviewer does a good job, so watch a few reviews.

Ask questions also.

I will say I think most newbies should avoid these: Conqueror, Moonshot, Tornado, and Smok with G4 deck. Those 3 require building experience, or a patient and determined new owner.

I researched the Alleria last night before bed, and the verdict is, I WANT ONE YESTERDAY!!. That thing looks amazing. I want the Druid too. Looks like an awesome rda.

In over 3 years of using RTAs, the Boreas is the best I've ever used. Rivaling my authentic Kennedy & Lancia.
For a beginner I'd go with a Kfun v3.
Monster base. 4usd at fastteck.
Tons of parts.
Forgiving on build mistakes.
Great flavor..

Druid is a very nice RDA. Versatile with the two caps, easy to coil, and well machined.

I learned on a Kaufun lite (EHpro clone). Dependable but a tight draw and I had to stay below 13W or dry hit. Great when driving. I got a Griffin a couple of months ago and found it to take time to get the wick perfect and it seems to leak sometimes or just make my hands sticky and is only 3.5ml. I just ordered a Youde UD Bellus to see how that works out.

The billow v3 and herackles rta 2 have easier wicking than the griffin id chose those over the griffin.

Boreas every1 loves it here but I honestly do not like it.

Avocado 24 would be my top choice.
Theorem is nice but 2ml is not good for the run.

Nothing specific really. Just human nature when you like a product and you are attracted to the positive reviews but don't search for negative.
I've bought equipment that was said to be great, but once you have problems you search for that and learn it's not so perfect.
For example, we don't search for "my xyz RTA leaks" or "my grub screw striped" until it does.

I'll switch to uwell crown to Griffin 25mm to the Avacado 24mm to The Alleria 22mm and always back to the Boreas. Just my two cents.. Ok I'm gone...:cloud::cloud:

Same here as much as I like to mix it up I go back to what's good :inlove::cloud::cloud:

I bought my first one to support Roxy's efforts - I really didn't think I'd attempt to coil and vape it.

I'm a tootler puffer with minimal building skill, MTL, low wattage, etc.

However, after getting the Boreas going, I'm using it at work all day, where I don't have time to tinker with my stuff and need a good consistent vape. I'm really impressed with it and love vaping with it.
