New to Vaping - HELP!

Hey Guys!

I'm knew to vaping and new to this forum. A friend of mine just got me the Joyetech eVIC-VTC Mini (comes with a cubis atomizer) as a birthday gift. I don't really know what I'm doing as far as the settings and stuff. I think I already burnt through one of my coils.

Thankfully it comes with 3; BF SS316 .5ohm head (which is the one I think I messed up), BF SS316 1.0ohm head, and BF clapton 1.5ohm head. It also comes with a BF RBA head; I've read that those are supposed to be rebuildable coils but this one seems to be put together, no clue.

So before I switch to a new coil I want to make sure I know which settings to use so I don't ruin this one as well. Sorry if this sounds too dumb, but I have no idea what is the differences in the modes, or when to change temp or watts (both are adjustable) . If anyone can please help me that would be very appreciated!

When I originally put it on, the vape produced great clouds and had great flavor. Unfortunately I adjust some settings by accident and don't know exactly what I switched so now I get a burning taste after a few pulls and sometimes very little vapor comes out. I tried looking up some things about my vape online but I don't know that much vape-terminology so it all sounds foreign to me :(

Also, is there any basic maintenance I should know about to get the best out of my vape?

Hello, and welcome to VU. First, can I ask you what battery you are currently using in your mod?

You can check out youtube videos on how to use your device and tank.

I am not familiar with that tank or mod, but basic rule of thumb would be to start at low wattage and work your way up to where you get a vape that is good for your liking, care of the tank would be a good cleaning every so often with warm/hot water is how I clean mine and once a month a good hot soak in soapy water after disassembled rinse and let dry, hope that helps and welcome to VU :)

Did the VTC mini not come with instructions in the box?

I have a Cubis. I generally vape around 32 watts for the .5 ohm coils. Above 1, like a 1.6 or 1.8 that goes waaaay down to around 12 watts.

Like others said before me, try turning your watts way down and adjust up until you get a nice vape for you.

Hey guys,

@ChrisL Im using the recommended battery; 18650. The problem with those video's is that they have different layout on the screen, I'm almost positive its because the firmware is upgradeable and I updated it as soon as I got it. I will attach a picture of what my screen looks like at the bottom.

@Whiskey thank you!

@AmandaD like I said, I'm new to vaping and I have no idea what all of the vape terms mean, so it is all foreign to me unfortunately.

@forza But how do I know if to increase the temp or increase the watts?

One more question I forgot to include in my original post; I have the ability to lock the coil ohms. Why would I need it to be locked or unlocked?

Again, sorry for the dumb questions, just trying to get a hang of all this

If your Mini has the latest update, you should have access to a very simple screen that is designed for beginners. Click the fire button 3 times quickly and the mode section at the top of the screen should flash. Click the right button until you get to the "start" screen. Push the fire button again then you can adjust the wattage and not have to worry about any other settings. Replace the bad coil making sure to prime the new one by dropping some juice on the cotton of the coil before installing it. Start with low wattage and then adjust it how you like it. They put this mode on the Mini for beginner's to simplify everything but it works great. Hope this helps.

You only use TC (and locking the resistance) with either Nickel, titanium, or sometimes stainless steel coils. Just use one of the regular coils (kanthal) and use it in wattage mode. Be sure to check which coil you're using. You'll need to read the manual to see how to get the mod into regular wattage mode vs TC mode. Usually the recommended wattage ranges are listed on the side of the atty - so start at the bottom and work up till it tastes the way you like it!

I wouldn't mess with temperature at this point. If you get the right wattage for you (and it really is a personal preference) your temp will adjust automatically.

The coil you have in there now is .5. The watts are recommended around 25-35. If you swap to the 1 ohm coil the 15 will be enough, possibly too much.

Don't forget to prime your coil first (see above).

I've been vaping a while now and I still don't mess with temperature very much. You'll find that sweet spot that satisfies you and that's the most important thing.

@pescadore I originally tried using the start mode and thats when i got the most burnt flavor, and probably how I messed up the coil. Should I try it again with the 1.0 ohm SS316 coil, but start with the minimum wattage and work my way up in that mode?

Alright so the smoke no longer tastes burnt. But I am tasting some of the e-juice when I pull and it is not pulling as easily even when the air flow holes are opened all the way. Did I prime it incorrectly?

I doubt it. It just takes time to adjust it to your liking.

It's kind of a long process. You'll eventually find what works best for you and no two people are ever the same. It took me ages to find my perfect set up but I finally did.

So the juice stopped but it still isn't pulling well. Someone said to try taking out the coil and blowing into it to get out the excess juice but its barely letting me blow anything in or out. Any idea why that would be?

Maybe you put it in wrong? Try taking it out and putting it back in. Also know there's a tighter draw on a 1ohm coil.

The Cubis has that top air flow thing at the cap. Make sure it's complete unobstructed.

Oh ok, so the higher the ohms the tighter the draw. So thats probably why. I tried it with the 1.5 and it was even tighter so that makes sense. Now whats the difference between the SS, Ni, or Ti coils?

No idea. I've been making my own with Kathal for so long I've never had time to compare. From what I understand it's something to do with flavor.
