NICOTINE AND YOU WHERE TO START

Finding the right amount of nicotine is important, you might have to purchase three different dose levels till you find what works for you.

I personally and this is me and my body started out at 24mg
I smoked two packs of Marlboro cigarettes a day
being full flavor and two packs 24mg worked for me.

Starting with 18mg nicotine allows you to see if its strong enough or to strong for you.

someone who smokes light cigarettes might want to start at 12mg or 18mg depending on how much they smoked

My Rule of thumb is as follows for whats its worth.

0-2 Packs a day Start at 18mg
2-4 Packs a day Start at 24mg
4+ Packs a day Start at 28 mg

This has worked for a lot of my Friends and I have been happy with the outcome.

I was a 2 to 2.5 pad smoker. I used 24mg for 6 months then went to 18mg for 4 months then 12mg. When I get rid of the 400 gallons I have now I'll go down again :p

I started with 12mg with cartomizers. The first time I tried juice it was 18mg and what a freaking rush!!!! I stayed on 18mg for a while and tried 12mg last summer but it wasn't satisfying. So I continued with 18mg up until a few months ago at my 1 year mark when I made the commitment to start weening myself down. So now all of my juices are 12mg. I will prolly stay here for a while and take my step down to 6mg towards the end of the year as I get closer to my 2 year mark

Just wrote an article about choosing the right nic level a couple months ago after seeing someone come into my local B&M, trying out a RDA, and dripping his 24mg juice. Its also what inspired me to make this....

After smoking Marlboro Reds 100s for 30 years, I started off at 18mg and it worked great...now down to 6mg and almost 1 year of vaping.

Started at 24mg went to 14 then back to 24.
On occasion I use WTA juices at 36mg but typically use 24 all day even when dripping.
I see no reason to lower my nicotine since I have no intention of quitting vaping.
I see some of you are cutting down your nicotine intake.
Are you going to be quitting vaping or is there some other reason for going down?

I will never be quitting vaping, I enjoy it too much, just like I did smoking. I found that the higher nic was making me restless when trying to sleep at night. Also, my thryoid dr, while very happy I quit smoking said, just take out the carbon monoxide part, and you'll see what he meant

"As for heart and other circulatory diseases, the two chemicals in cigarettes that stand out as the biggest problems are nicotine and carbon monoxide. Nicotine, besides being addictive, has very powerful effects on arteries throughout the body. Nicotine is a stimulant, speeding up the heart by about 20 beats per minute with every cigarette, it raises blood pressure, is a vasoconstrictor - which means it makes arteries all over the body become smaller making it harder for the heart to pump through the constricted arteries - and it causes the body to release its stores of fat and cholesterol into the blood.

The heart has to work harder to overcome all of these effects.
I will enclose the link...if people take out the carbon monoxide, you can see the effects with just the nicotine. Sorry for such a long post, but I like to keep informed, and keep others informed as well. Vape on!

I'm sorry but you are posting nicotine's alleged affect from a site that does not want you to use nicotine period!
Whyquit has a very prominent anti vaping, anti nicotine agenda.
In fact they often refer to it as "The Nicodemon" which is laughable! lol >>>Nicodemon>>
The "facts' they claim have been used for a long time but really aren't true for me or others I suspect.......
I have had my blood pressure taken while vaping and there is no change.
Neither was there a change when I had an ekg.....
I vaped through my hospital stay and healed as well as I always do albeit slower because I'm an OLD BROAD!

I sleep just fine using nic before bedtime too!

C.B. I sincerely thank you for pointing out, that that site is not friendly to us vapers. My apologies for not researching them to see if they were a neutral site in their information :) You had said earlier in this thread, "I see some of you are cutting down your nicotine intake.
Are you going to be quitting vaping or is there some other reason for going down?"

I should have just answered your question with, because of what my specialist said, and how I was feeling on the higher level of nicotine, is why I am cutting back. Obviously nicotine effects everyone differently, what is true for me, or you, won't be true or applicable for others.
All I know is vaping beats smoking hands down, and I think that is something we can agree on.
Cheers!

Being that I was unaware that you didn't know about "Whyquit's many sites" and it is this type of puritanical propaganda I personally wish to eliminate. I appreciate your gracious response!
Thank you!
I try to inform my doctors about the truth with regard to nicotine though it doesn't mean they are receptive sadly.....
I've found very many are wholly unaware that "nicotine does not cause cancer" and the rest of the crap {NicoDemon, etc.} these ANTZ extremists groups try to force you to believe.
However I find that it is absolutely irresponsible for an MD. to NOT KNOW the FACTS about whatever concerns they have!
Isn't that what "continuing education" for physicians is all about?
Sorry for the rant lol!
Congrats on making the switch and best wishes on your vaping journey!

I started with 24 like most people and have made my way down to around 2mg-6mg over the past year. At first my reason for cutting back the nic was to try and get off of everything completely but after a few months I faced the facts and realized that I'm not doing myself near as much harm as I was smoking, and that I had picked up a new hobby as well. I will never stop vaping, and I doubt I'll get down to 0 nic as a daily routine. To me though, with lower nicotine comes better flavor. Nicotine has a very distinct taste to me and at this point I am all about the flavor of my e-liquid, especially because I DIY my own and we mix our own juice at the shop so I want to make sure I'm getting the most pure taste possible. I find myself relying less and less on throat hit as well. I'd be content vaping at 6mg for the rest of my life :].

Started with 24mg to break a 2 pack a day habit. After the cigs. and cigars were far away in my rear view mirror I found out I'd become hard core flavor chaser fanatic and high nicotine, I realized, was hurting the taste. So i dropped to a 6 and sometimes cut it with a 0 to get around 3. I'll never go no nic. at all because I like a little kick, so I'm content vaping 3-6mg from now on.

If I was rocking a tank vs a dripper I would be 18-to 36 still.
My cut came from going solely dripping... 18 was exciting, 12 was still blowing my ears back and now fall between 3-9.
I need nicotine so the stupids can continue to breath.

You mad man! I vape 30mg for a year now. I don't think I have the gonads to try 48mg. Congrats on cutting down to 6mg. Can you tell me how you cut down? Did you drop the mg a little bit at a time or slash it cold turkey? I can see a time where we will not be able to get nicotine as easy as we do now. I have my supplier runs out all the time. Lucky I don't wait until the last minute. I usually buy a 500ml bottle @ 60mg. It's cheaper than the 100mg and does the job.

I started at 18 mg/ml a year ago. After about 4 months I cut down to 12 mg/ml. I am now about to start DIY my own juice and plan on trying to go a little lower.

My reason for lowing the nic is both cost (PG and VG are a lot cheaper than nic) and the stimulate nature of it. I am also trying to cut caffeine out. Not because I believe nic and caffeine are 'bad' I would just like to use the least as possible. I will not be troubled though if I never use 0 nic juices.

I smoked a pack a day for 4 years and started on 18mg. Within a week I went to 12mg, and now vape between 6 and 3 (I use RDAs exclusively). If I had to go to zero I might be able to for a week or so! The only reason I have for cutting down is that some health insurance requires a cotinine test and will impose heavy penalties if you test positive - they may raise rates to those of a smoker. Also, I DIY, and I suspect the cost of nicotine will increase in the future!

@AmandaD did you pass a cotinine test, even though you vape with nic?

I haven't taken one, but I may have to in the future, which is why if I know I do have to I'll just drop to zero nic for a week!

I started vaping 2 weeks ago, right on 12 mg nic and haven't touched a smoke since. I actually think I might drop to 6mg nic on my next sample order. I do find 12mg to give me a kick in the throat sometimes that isn't exactly enjoyable.

Totally agree on more flavor with lower nic content. When I used a kayfun, 6mg... good. 6mg in a dripper or orchid and I'm turning green and starting to sweat lol. 3mg for a while and it's very satisfying.

Try vapers tek nic, very little nic taste compared to other companies nic.

I've been to some vape shops where the salespeople try starting people out on low nicotine. I think it's BS. They are probably drippers for one (as one of the employees said he spent 5k already in 2014) and trying to get people to buy more juice. I started at 24mg with high PG and I quit immediately. My friend who was just starting took their advice and is still smoking a pack a day. Doesn't have enough gear, juice and vapes all day in his office but still leaves to go outside for smoke breaks. His apartment and car and clothes all reek, and I used to smoke a lot as soon as I got in my car to make the bad smells stop. Just as I did in bars when I went out to party after showering. I can smell smoke very easily now,but still can't smell cat poop or pee which used to drive me nuts. I can smell myself a lot better though now :). My wife is very happy I am vaping now, and when I go to bed if I've had Mother's Milk or something else she moves in closer.

I stupidly tried that.... ONCE...

For me I started vaping simply because my boyfriend of three years smoked continiously and to best honest i was gettng hooked on second hand smoke so when i brought him a vape kit i tried myself and then within weeks I found myself hooked and since then its really helped me when I am anxious depressed or simply feeling rubbish to cope better i feel so much more calmer
