In an interview with IGN, Nintendo Creative Fellow Shigeri Miyamoto said the Japanese game maker was interested in using Apple’s NFC technology with amiibo, the company’s toys-to-life platform.
“There's nothing we can announce today but It’s certainly an area we’re interested in,” Miyamoto said, “and today Apple announced some new news about their NFC technology.”
But what’s he referring to exactly? During Apple’s September event, where the company made several big announcements regarding its popular phone and tablet lines, the company said that iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch Series 2 will support FeliCa Type-F NFC contactless technology in Japan. This type of NFC is used for more than 160 million daily transactions across Japan, according to Apple’s press release.
