@KingPin!
Hey KP, Could you please have a look at this wicking and tell me what possibly could be wrong?
I'm not getting any leaks, the flavor is decent, but the vape itself is not very smooth.
I'm using the coils that came in the box (0.23 ohms in dual) and cotton bacon for wicking. Firing @ 60-65 watts.

Overall its very "choky" at those watts. The vape is hot, beyond my liking, if I go higher and there's also a noticeable flavor loss.

Thanks in advance. :)

Wicking looks ok to me, although if it’s spitting, gargling etc then it’s nornally because the cotton is not tight enough inside the coil ...is this what you meant by choking?

Try turning down the wattage a bit also if your finding it too hot

When you clean the coils did you notice any hot spots?

Hi KP,

No, there's no spitting or anything.
By choky.. i mean when i pull a drag it makes me cough... its not smooth as in my other tanks. I'm using a 3mg liquid, same in my other tanks.
The cotton inside the coil is tight. I use the raking method to remove the access form the ends.

Thanks

In addition to letitias comment, also look to get rid of those coils and plonk something else in...something where you know what metal it is and historically vape on fine  you could well be having a problem with the metal itself

Yeah.. That was my last resort. Will try lowering the watts. If not then I'll change the coils.
The thing was I was finally getting a hang of the wicking in the past few days, until this happened. So wanted to find out what was wrong.

Thanks for the help. :)

Hi, I'm still kind of a newbie on the whole vaping world, but I do know I want to finally quit smoking, so I'm looking for a new tank and your review cought my attention.

I bought two cheap tanks not long ago but I'm not satisfied. They are an eleaf lyche and a lemo. I got the lemo2 working flawlessly but the airflow is too restricted for my taste, I think it's an MTL. The lyche I love it's design, the airflow and how it vapes with the .25 dual coil head it comes with, the RBA however is a whole different story. I've had too much trouble getting it to work. Too little space to work, too complicated to wick properly, etc. after so much frustration I decided I would go for something on the easy/medium dificulty scale to build and enough space to work while not sacrificing flavor or vapor.

So after some time reading great things about both single and dual coil OBS Crius 2 tanks and reading your review, I would like to know in your opinion which one is better? Are they both direct to lung airflow? (could not confirmed this anywhere). Is sapping or leaking an issue on any of them? Does the dual coil version has enough space in it to build it with large/long coils? Between the crius single, dual or the Vandy Vape Pyros, which one do you recommend the most?

Hey buddy. Welcome to vaping and good decision to quit the stinkys. :)

As for your question. The lyche is not an MTL tank, the lemo is, but isn't that great, restricted DL at best.
OBS Crius 2 SC and DC both are proper DL tanks. And both of them are amazing flavor-wise.
To build on, the crius 2 can be a bit tricky to wick, for new vapors atleast, as you may have seen the OP. But once you get a hang of it, its all good. To be honest... all it takes is practice.
The SC is great as well, really easy to build on as far as i can tell. Infact some prefer it over the DC because of cooler vape and lower juice consumption. The DC is a heavy juice guzzler.

Builds: Yes you can put beefy builds on this eaisly, but usually its not preferred to do so on RTAs, best save those for RDAs. With RTAs, better to use single/dual core claptons. Braided wires will give you spitback and other beefy coils will make the tank very hot with a few drags.

Regarding your decision to quit, here's my 2 cents.
I initially bought an eleaf melo 3, it was a DL tank and couldn't help me quit smoking at all as the highest i could go was 3 mg, which doesn't give me the required kick. Nearly after a year, I bought the nautilus 2, this is when my smoking went down by nearly 90% in just 2 days. This was followed by the crius 2, couldn't get it to work ,leaks and dry hits were a big problem. So Got the geek vape blitzen, used it for a few days same issues, got the zeus (SC) used it for a few days, it was really good, got back to crius 2 DC and I was surprised on how good it was. So now the blitzen is gathering dust, while I use this, Geekvape Zeus, Digiflavor Siren v2 (MTL, 70% of the day) and DIgiflavor drop as my primaries.
IMO you wont be able to quit without a proper, dedicated MTL setup.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi there mate, many thanks for reading my review firstly

I don’t have the single coil Crius or Pyro to compare for you unfortunately at the moment ...the pyro is on my wish list though

Would I recommend this tank for a beginner..hmmm probably not because in my opinion it requires larger builds to shine

I think a velocity deck is a good place to start but I’ve got a few questions for you first if you’ll endulge me

1. What kind of builds will you be using?
2. What sort of wattage do you like vaping at?
3. Do you want an airy or tighter direct lung draw?
4. Is the main focus on flavour or want clouds?
5. Would you rather have dual coil, or single coil?
6. Do you care how fast it drinks liquid?
7. Would you prefer a 510 or 810 drip tip? (Narrow vs wide bore)
8. Is leak free a top priority? Recommendations might conflict with your answer for 4.
9. What sort of cost do you have in mind?
10. Are you partial to RTAs (tank above the deck) or want to try an RDTA (tank below the deck)?
11. Do you want flexibility with a tank that can use both pre made and rebuildable coils?

For me the Crius 2 single coil is a clear winner. Flavor is spot on, easy to build, wicking has a short learning curve. I have no problem using my preferred tri core fc coils in it. I like a cooler vape and the rta does't get warm. Also the af is flexible and not noisy.

Hi Letitia! Glad you are liking the Crius2, very nice tank!
LOL KingPin-
LOL I love the Pyro RDTA and I do think it is very easy for a beginner, still my favorite tanks- no messy tank to take off and fiddle with, wicking is easy, and I use the postless deck as a single, but can be used as a dual too. Taste is awesome and I have had no leaking. I have been using the Pyros for months and plan to buy some more! The only con for me with the Pyro are the included drip tips. I switched them out.
You gotta try a Pyro KingPin!

Hi and welcome!
I have and use the Crius2 single and the VV Pyros-
Love the Pyro- doesn't leak, easy deck, no messy tank to take apart, everything sits above the tank. The only complaint I have with the Pyro is the included drip tips, I switched them out for my own.

I have been using Demon Killer coils kits in SS 316 .5Ω clapton and .23Ω mix twisted- the coils are 3mm id. - I do not build and get these Demon Killer kits free or so cheap- I have kanthal,Ni80 and now SS- I believe most kits have 48 coils and about 8 different types, but so far pretty much all the coil types are nice way to try different coil types. I have two Therion 75C so I needed SS coils and they have been working great with the Pyro and the Therion in RePlay. I have 2 Pyros(SS and Rainbow) and want to get the other colors(black and gold), so I need 2 more.

I haven't chatted with @SkoldVape in a while and hope all is well with him. How are you liking the Ammit 25?
I don't have the Zesthia either, so many great single deck RTAs out now and @Heartsdelight has many she likes now.
KingPin @Letitia9 and @Heartsdelight you guys are great at DIY too- I haven't jumped down that rabbit hole. I am a busy Gramma and find liquids I like for affordable prices, so I have stuck with just buying pre made- but some day I may jump down that hole.

As usual, I second Letitia9 on recommending the crius 2 single coil. Always steers me in the right direction. Very easy to coil and wick and the flavour is excellent. Too bad the obs engine nano isn’t around anymore because that’s a great tank as well.
@Letitia9 gave me a OBS Nano that I love in a beautiful blue and I bought the rainbow! I use the Nanos with my Asmodus Minikin V2s
Too bad OBS has discontinued that tank.

I am glad that you are trying to quit cigarettes- ecigs and much will power is needed! When I quit almost 4 years ago, none of this sub ohm gear was out yet. I used the Joyetech eCabs with 24nic juice for a long time- then used the eleaf 20w with the GS air tanks at 1.5Ω and 15w too, long before I got into sub ohm tanks.
You might want to keep a pod with higher nic or nic salts for those tough days, I don't have any suggestions on any since I have cut my nic from 24mgs to 3mgs and some days I vape 0mgs.
The Pyro and the Crius II are DL tanks, but at 3mgs of nic, maybe good to switch with a good MTL tank and or pods like Juuls to help with quitting cigarettes too? I needed high nic in the beginning, cut out cigs day by day, I set a quit date for two weeks and while some days were tough- I stuck it out and vaped more- almost 4 years now and not a single cigarette.
Back ups are very important too- no way are cigarettes a back up plan!

Not tried the zeus yet. How is it??
The Zeus is OK- finicky with wicking, too much and dry hit city. Spend time taking the tank apart and it can be messy.
The other downside is the Pyros 3.5 ml tank- juice guzzler, but easy enough to refill.
Loving RDTAs- much easier for me, no messy tanks to take apart, awesome flavor and no leaking.
I have the Flave styled RDTA on my VT Inbox V3, just started squonking a few month ago- waiting on my new eLeaf Squeeze 2 to get here, of course I got Dazzling(rainbow)

I had a dripbox 160 an the batteries would drain in like an hour. Bloody terrible!
I hated the 60w of spitting, firey fury from my 60w DripBox, sick of getting hit with hot, molten fire balls!
Didn't like the squonk door either oh and the screw cap for the battery. Piece of rubbish for me- much too hot and no way to regulate the wattage, except by builds. Not a good one for me.
Love the VT Inbox V3-
I hope I love the Squeeze 2 as much!

Thank you guys for all your replies.

I've tried all possible wicking methods for the Rba deck on the lyche and the results are mediocre at best, considering I'm all about DIY and such, It's just not an easy tank to work with. The lemo2 got me only 2 or 3 tries to get it right (the tank leaks when wicked improperly) but after that it was a breeze and I hadn't had a single issue with it.

The thing is that I bought those two tanks as they were the cheapest I found in AliExpress, with the intention to try what I kind of like better. I've found that MTL just isn't for me. The DL air flow of the lyche using the disposable .25 ohms coil head for me feels even better than smoking when using .3 or .6 nic. Even unflavored. My wife did prefer a MTL and really enjoyed the lemo, so she kept it and nothing was lost :)

After reading all your comments I think I've decided to go for the OBS crius 2 single coil first and see how it goes from there. Seems it could satisfy what I want in a tank for the moment. The pyros looks interesting but I'm still doubtful about using a RDTA. How would it compare with this OBS in terms of flavor and cloud?

I think you will be happy with the Crius II single coil-
it has very good flavor and I used this for many months till I bought the Pyros.
The Pyro is very easy to use- I have no problems with it, so may be a good next tank for you.
I also use the OBS Nanos and Geekvape Zeus and the Ample Pixys RDTAs. The only sub tank I have been using is the Innokin Scion ll, coils are cheap and I have 2 RBAs for it. I used the Scion I, but it started leaking, so switched to my new Scion II, so far so good with that!
Yes much trial and error with gear- some work, some don't- what you like, I may not and what I like, you may not- never know till you try it.
So much great gear coming on the market all the time.

I'm trying out the scion 2 atm too :) got the
Proton kit a couple days ago. Been wanting innokin to do a dual battery for ages!

Sorry I hadn't seen your post King...

To answer your questions:
1.- I bought a bunch of prebuilt 26 gauge 3mm coils for .6 omhs each. And I also bought a roll of 30 gauge. But I could just order something you recommend for this kind of build.

2.- When the Rba head finally works I like how it vapes using .6 ohm double coils at .3 ohms total, using 30-40 watts. I hadn't had the chance to test the how the 30 gauge vapes because I cannot wick it right. It reads .6 total when installed though. Using the included prebuilt disposable heads that read .25 ohms I vape at around 50 watts.

3.- I think I like it airier. Although the lyche's AF is somewhat restricted I still like it but could use a bit more

4.- balanced, leaning a bit more toward flavor

5.- indifferent, as long as the air is somewhat warm

6.- nah, I already started making my own :)

7.- I haven't tried an 810 yet :(

8.- as long as I don't have to clean my battery every single day I'm ok

9.-about 25 - 30 bucks for the tank, plus shipping

10.- I could try rdta, just haven't tried one yet and have no idea what are the pros and cons

11.- not really. I actually like making stuff and it's fun to build coils. As long as it's a reliable vape I'm ok with it.

I think i never asked but does the air on the OBS crius 2 single coil comes out a bit warm? I mean like at least something similar to a stinker warm (Im beginning to like that work).

I’ll have to bow out to one of the others in this thread to answer single coil crius questions I’m afraid

On the coil front maybe try a fused Clapton at some point 2x26 or 28g cores with a 36 or 38g wrap you’ll notice a big difference in flavour performance on these tanks mentioned ...if you don’t mind SS316L try it and space the wraps a little then you can try out temp control as well as wattage ...Temp control can be a great vape when you dial it in on the right mod

If you haven’t already I recommend also checking the Kaees Solomon dual coil RTA V1 it’s cheap, very forgiving to build on and wick and the flavour is very good (one of the best I’ve tried) in addition you don’t need big fancy coils couple of fused Clapton’s is all it needs and it’s great at those wattages you mentioned. It’s not the prettiest tank out there but it definitely gets the job done ...I’ll post a link where I included in my review for you to check it out (ignore the number 2 I featured them both)

http://vapingunderground.com/threads/kaees-solomon-2-rta-review-by-kingpin-inc-wicking-guide.414039/

If you do at some point try the V1 let me know in That other thread and I’ll sort out it’s own wicking guide for you :)

After reading a lot of reviews, including the Solomon recommended by @KingPin! i got interested in the pyro that @SnapDragon NY mentioned. So I went reading for RDTA and I think that it looks like a vape I would enjoy. How reliable is the pyro to vape with? And how does the vape compares with the OBS crius 2 tanks?

I really think you would like the VV Pyro- I use it as a single coil- cutting the original coil to fit takes a little time, and it has to span diagonally-
I don't have to completely take the tank apart on the Pyro like I do with the Crius II- I can fix whatever right on top of the Pyro- very easy. Rewicking is super easy too. The flavor and clouds are great on both. I have absolutely no leaking with the Pyro- If you don't wick the Crius II right, you can get leaking or dry hits, but usually pretty easy to wick the Crius II. I tried to find a You Tube video on how to mount as a single, I know I saw one, thats why I bought it, but don't remember who did that.
It is really up to you to decide- they are both awesome tanks. If I had to pick one over the other - I would choose the Pyro- I have 1 Crius II -I just bought my 3rd Pyro.

Hi all, i'm really thankful for your contributions and ideas. i wanted you to know that the lyche finally got on my nerves. so i called a fellow vaper in town and he mentioned that a new store opened 5 minutes from my house. so i went there and tried my first RDTA... i finally settled for the DJV rdta after @KingPin! 's review and boy o boy i'm in love with RDTA style tanks... i also ordered the Pyro from Aliexpress so i've got one perfect vaping tank in my hand and another perfect tank on it's way. i'm leaving the crius 2 for the next month, i already went over this month's budget for vaping gear.

Thank you guys :)

:stars: RDTAs were all the rage a year or so ago ...they’ll be back resurfacing with more releases at some point... vaping tends to go round in cycles haha

Glad you found a product and more importantly a style you like mate that’s great:cheers:
