Well folks, just got word that my youngest daughter is on her way to the hospital with a (probably) broken leg. Freak accident on her front steps.

What a week.

I didn't want to go as restrictive as the Paleo diet is, I eat mostly fresh veggies, fruit and meat, and snack on fruits with some kind of cheese or other fats. I think I'm pretty low carb, but that's not a priority for me. I'm also fairly low protein as this stuff goes, aiming for about 75 grams of it per day with about 60 from animal sources. I think I may be more Paleo than I think because I don't eat much that's processed, so no breads, pastas and other processed stuff, but I don't worry about it too much :)

I'm pretty imaginative about spicing up my meals so I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything in the satisfaction department. I've found I can replace the fat content of meats with other food ingredients that satisfy me so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

My fails are bread, cookies, fast food, chocolate bars and beer :wait:, but I can mostly overcome those temptations with good alternative recipies that are healthier. And if I want to indulge in a 'bad' food choice once in a while I can keep it down to once a month or so which means it's less than 1% of my diet .. and that's not too bad :)

Do you feel better than before you made changes? That is what counts the most :)

I'd heard of Paleo but thought it was way too extreme - but when I was told by DRs (which I rarely pay attention too but...) that I had to give up all processed foods, starch, and all wheats and grains, dairy, etc. I was lost as hell and pissed off too

When looking for recipes for stuff I could eat on the internet, Paleo recipes came up time and time again. Finally broke down and bought the book; the theory made total sense to me and the only thing I had to give up from what I already was not allowed to eat was legumes.

One of the many things I love about Paleo is I don't worry about fat or anything like that - as long as I stay in the Paleo food groups, I eat as much or as little as I want of whatever I want

Thank you everyone. Tonight two of my three kids have been in the ER in different cities. My son just had that car wreck on Saturday and he had to go back to be checked for continuing breathing problems. When it rains...

I'm going to bed. Good night all.

That's a great juice calculator Andria, thanks for sharing :)

Ain't it though? With my very specific requirements for PG level, and then with decreasing first my WTA percentage and then my nic level, it long outlived its usefulness as a calc for use with WTA. Someone over at butthead-central pointed it out to me, just for that reason, when I was using that all-VG WTA, and it really is an outstanding calc. You can check out other recipes with that one too, from other people -- mine is called "crypticvapes", though admittedly, not many of those recipes are very good, it might offer some ideas if nothing else. I cleared out a lot of useless crap from mine some months back, and it's probably about due for another pruning. :)

I've been vaping all PG for a while now Andria. I can handle VG just fine but I like the bit of 'kick' and the extra flavor PG gives me and also the ability to stealth up my cloud when I want to do that.

I've used up all my old VG. Going to have to order some again so I can make better skin and massage lotions.

Yeah, I recently had to advise a friend of my son's who was starting that hacking-up crap using a 30/70 vape, and also somewhat when using a 50/50 vape... so the last I made for him, I made 60/40, to see how he does with that. I know he likes a strong, sweet flavor, because my son gave him some that I mixed for him some months ago; my son said after the first hit, he got this goofy look on his face and said "woah, it's like birthday cake!" so he is probably loving that 60/40 mix, with the boost in flavor that PG gives. :) I don't find my 86/14 particularly stealthy, but lord knows, it's a lot more discreet than the massive whipped cream clouds that most vapers exhale. I can vape it in public restrooms, but I still blow it down my shirt, because holding it in like it's herbal-cigarette smoke isn't very satisfying to me -- I keep waiting for the buzz to hit and get disappointed when it never does. :giggle:

I think I'm probably about due to re-up my PG/VG and also nic, since I'm making about 50% of what my son vapes too -- but he's like most vapers, and likes to switch up flavors with a few others, most of which he bought at a store near here that offers really amazing prices for what is apparently very tasty juice. Sadly, I can't try any of their juice, since I can't vape any substantial amount of VG; the highest PG I think most stores offer nowadays is 50/50, and that shit would suffocate me. :(

One of the many things I love about Paleo is I don't worry about fat or anything like that - as long as I stay in the Paleo food groups, I eat as much or as little as I want of whatever I want

Recently visited my endocrinologist, who suggested I drop 100 - 150 pounds. He said to reduce or completely get rid of starches, carbohydrates, sweets, soda (emphasizing to get rid of soda fully). Wife and me were discussing this and she recalled it being suggested a person has no more than around 23 grams of carbs a day. Told her I was trying to knock mine down to 20 or less a day. I cannot eat potatoes now, either due to starch.

Starch and carbs turn to 'bad' sugars which then convert to fat that isn't easily metabolized out of your system. I still use a bit of sugar in my coffee but am reducing a lot of processed cane sugar that I eat. Not allowing myself to think about candies or snack cakes, doughnuts. I can have about 4 grams of meat daily and I usually try for making that some form of white meat, though I do break often and enjoy and red meat.

From what little I've looked into Paleo, is it similar to the raw or unprocessed food diet? To me it seems to be that. I've been eating various salads, doing up what I call my sweat salads, I make up a salad that is not sauteed and add a batch of sauteed ingredients to that salad. Had a big old skillet full of 'shipwreck' this morning. Took a tomato, baby leaf spinach, shredded carrots, green and black olives, mushrooms, added a pinch of garlic powder, Italian seasoning ... sauteed that into three scrambled eggs.

A friend from high school taught me about shipwreck/s for breakfast. He was an absolute doll baby. One of these kinds that you would figure would rather attack you than admit to needing loved. No one ever knew otherwise from me. We would wake in each other's arms, both growling for breakfast for about three weeks. He would make us and his two younger brothers, sister a big skillet of shipwreck. "What do we got in the fridge? What's in the cans? Toss it all in here. We'll get around breakfast even if we got to wreck it."

Some of us cannot digest it properly and it promotes autoimmune disease - especially modern wheats
I second the autoimmune. @AndriaD When I first obtained my diagnosis I couldn't even move my extremities due to the pain. I had no idea the liver could project itself like this. I had to see a liver doc and a rheumatologist just to function (about 2 years ago). Long story short-autoimmune liver disease aka autoimmune hepatis. I have stage 3 fibrosis and stage 2 cirrhosis as evidenced by liver biopsy.. My liver doctor is on board with any diet. She knows I'm doing low carb. I have to get off the meds and this will help my fatty liver disease as well.

I think we have similar issues - my RA came back with a vengeance last year and was attacking my liver - it brought me to my knees a year ago January

I'd been off meds for over two years, as I went into what I believed was a full remission during the process of quitting smoking - it almost dislocated my middle finger joints on both hands when I was in my thirties

My rheumatologist had been trying to get me to give up white carbs and sugar for years; I'd cut back dramatically years ago, but I guess it wasn't enough

With radical diet change and yoga, I'm in better shape than I've ever been really - I think my biggest error was mistaking a lack of pain as health, I never did really feel good and then when my symptoms reappeared they were worse than ever and twice as painful

I refused the liver biopsy - the biopsy for the original diagnosis was enough for me

Yikes! Very similar indeed. I hope to hell I never ever have another liver biopsy. They called a code on me because even though I was in a laying position I ended up having a severe vasovagul response. I thought death was near. I'm in a chemical remission but need to treat the autoimmune response. Doctors here in WI lack that knowledge. I've tried to do as much research as possible related to liver disease and autoimmune. I think I may reverse this though diet.

The rheumatologist is basically on retainer awaiting any problems that might occur. So far I'm almost pain free since GB removal. The gallbladder was sending out referred pain to my back. I really thought I had damaged by back. The body is so tricky!

I cannot wait to get off these dam meds! If I may ask what did they prescribe for you? My cocktail is Imuran and prednisone.

Off to sleep! Work is kicking my arse!

See - that kind of crap scared me - and I'm glad I declined AMA

Also have declined all prescription medications period

I have not taken any meds for over three years now - I was on prednisone for years, then methotrexate (horrible stuff) and another I can't remember - I believe these drugs helped destroy my liver in the first place and I refused drug treatment when the RA all flared back up - which I attribute to processed food I was eating, hands down

When I first started having pain I thought it was probably gall bladder, due to the fact I was the same age as my mother when she had to have hers removed because of gall stones. As a precaution, I self-medicated and cleansed with a three month treatment of Chanca Piedra and serrapeptidase, as my gall bladder appeared healthy on a cat scan, but my mother's did too, despite the fact it was fully loaded, so to speak. I also took Milk Thistle and super probiotics

I currently take Tumeric and boswellia for inflammation, and probiotics, that's it

My GP originally diagnosed me with fatty liver, which was incorrect

Milk thistle will really help if you take it consistently. Elimination anti-inflammatory diets can help isolate food triggers that contribute to autoimmune disease. Probiotics are far more important than most people realize. They support the immune system.

It's 4 am and that's as close as I can come to coherent thought.

Daughter's break is in the ankle, not the leg. She went home about midnight.

I'm trying to wean off the prednisone. I know the doc is following a algorithm and I'm just a cookie in the mold. No individualized care just whatever to keep me under control. I'm past due on my LFT but waiting a bit until I have weaned off the pred completely. She won't allow any more tests until I see her. :( I had to get the GB removed because it was growing into the liver and full of calcium stones.

Your a inspiration to continue my journey!

My DH had a liver scare from the Crestor he was taking. I told him statins will kill you! Well the test show it was starting to destroy the liver. He is off and I don't think he will take any more statins. Of course, the quacks have him scared since he had a heart stent placed last Oct. I told him if he did a modified low carb diet with healthy fats he would no longer need any of his meds. Of course, he is slow and stubborn.

I can't believe how doctors misdiagnose folks. Then I think yes they cannot think anymore and follow a plan.

Thank you, Lucy. I didn't make it through the day at work today. Had to come home at noon. I think since Sunday morning I have been working my way through various phases of that delayed reaction that parents have after the major part of a crisis with one of the kids is over. None of this is about me, but I'm also not a machine. I melted completely down on Sunday morning about my son's accident. Then when I got that frantic phone call about my daughter on Monday night, I don't even know. It just felt like a bomb went off. Turns out that the daughter's situation isn't as bad as my oldest daughter initially thought, but she's a 3-hour drive away, so here I sat wondering wth was going on. All of it really caught up with me today. I came home and slept from about 3 until just a few minutes ago (about 9 pm here).

So on that cheerful note, good evening Old Pharts! Somebody pitch a bitch to liven things up, eh? Have a glass of yer favorite and settle in!

A minor bitch.
I better understand now how old pfarts get into trouble driving.

Was taking wife to a doctors appointment in the big city.
Just as we we were passing the last exit of our county seat city.
My wife tells me we need to take that exit and stop at the bank.... No mention of a bank stop at all up till this moment.
I was in the middle of 3 lanes on the interstate at 70 mph with traffic all around and less than 100 yards until the end of the exit ramp. The other end of the exit ramp.

I wisely just kept driving.

Hate to admit it, but I've done stuff like that to my husband, too. Sometimes, just not paying attention. Off somewhere else in my head. However...

He thinks everyone around him is psychic, so if he thinks something, he'll swear he said it, when actually he didn't.

I think that makes us about even. :)

Glad you didn't decide to shoot across two lanes of traffic and do a Broderick Crawford in the off ramp.

I posted this in another thread. Note the Grandson is over 18.

Set up the grandson with some vape stuff.

Had to do it he showed off and old beatup Smok Mod to me with a beastie tank and said he could not get it past 30W.
Took a look and saw some unidentifiable re-wrap battery in it...

I took him a couple of Subtank minis and a VTC Mini and a Punisher 80 mod along with a couple of VTC5A's. And basic rebuilding stuff and anbout 25 Subtank mini factory coils, spare glass, i2 charger, etc
Spent some time with him today teaching him some basic battery safety. Such as only use good batteries and if you put a loose battery in your pocket it is very likely to burn a hole in your leg with a 1,000 degree spout of flame. No torn wraps, etc.
Gave him 10 prewrapped coils for the STM RBA and showed him how to mount, clip and wick.

Strange thing is he said the STM tank with the RBA at 17 watts gave him a much better vape than the beastie tank at 30+ watts.
He is pleased that his batteries will last longer as well.

And I got rid of my last 2 black mods!
Sad to part with 2 STM's though...

My grandson, just turned 20, vapes as well, but he still smokes, too. I keep buying him juice hoping to encourage him to leave off the cigs. Don't know about his hardware now, last time I saw it he had a Kanger kit of some sort, looked ok, but then his battery died and he had to "borrow" one from me, which of course was the last I saw of it. At least I know he has one decent battery. (If he'd asked me to give him a battery, I absolutely would have. It's the "borrow" and then "not return" that gets me.)

Anyhow, i'm getting my DIY feet now, so pretty soon I'll make him some good blueberry horchata juice.

IT HAS JUST BEGUN TO SLEET OUTSIDE.

Dammit, this is Virginia, and it's the 20th of March. The Bradford pear trees and the forsythia are already blooming.

ETA: Speaking of which, did you folks see on the news about that storm in Alabama yesterday? The hail damage was unbelievable. Hail came through the ceilings of office buildings and such, busted out windshields of cars. I think that was the same storm that we're getting now, but I thought we were only supposed to get snow. Good to start with a nice base of rain, then sleet on top of that, THEN snow. We'll bust our asses if we try to go outside tomorrow.

I don't know how he can call himself a Chesapeake or a Cheapskate or a Cheap Ass though, if he gave all that stuff away.

Ah, we are suckers for the grandkids.
I have to get another charger now and those were my backup scissors and snips....

But I have limits I only gave him black mods not white ones :D

but I told him once he was ready I would give him a squeeze and a wasp.

@The Cromwell It's good you helped him. If he's gonna vape, he needs to be safe and know how to do it properly. So you did a very good thing. I was just razzin' you a little. :)
I know and it was taken in kind.

Actually I have given away around 1/3 the vape stuff I have bought, hardware wise and about 1/3 of the flavorings I have bought.
But the flavorings I could not use so no goodness there :)

I also gave him 60 ml of Cromwells Custard.
And 30 ml of Cromberry.

I have never sold any vape stuff.
Who would buy my junk anyway LOL

A sudden bitch just came upon me.

You ever get a tank full of juice, suddenly you don't like that juice so much, but you're too cheap to toss it, and it seems like it takes FOREVER to get it all vaped?

I've got this stuff called "Manager's Special" from Oasis Vape that is 70/20 vg, that tastes like pancakes and maple syrup. The first bottle of it, omg how I loved it. But then Oasis stopped making mixes in 50/50. I didn't realize at the time that I was sensitive to vg, so I ordered more, and not only that, I ordered 120ml of it.

So I had that tank full of the stuff, and added some 70/30 pg cinnamon to it, thinking that would thin it out some and spruce up the flavor, but apparently I didn't add enough. So it's still like vaping Vaseline, and now suddenly, too, the flavor is just too sweet.

Listen to all this bitchin', and all I have to do is just dump the shit down the sink. Imma dump it right damn now.

Thanks y'all. :)
