Opinions on the Merlin Mini (or other RTA/RDAs)?

Hi! New here, and new to RBAs.

I'm still figuring out what I like... I think I like restricted lung hits most of the time (At least, I like my airflow turned down a fair bit). I like flavor, and I like vapor, too. Flavor probably a tiny bit more. I'm looking to spend about $50, preferably less. I'm open to RDAs as well. I'm new to this, but I'm pretty good with tech/building/tinkering with things, so I'm not *too* worried about needing a super easy deck.

So... Thoughts on the Merlin Mini? Recommendations for something else?

And if you have it, I've heard that the Mini can get really hot with double coil low ohms/high watt builds. How bad is it? Cause I do like being able to do that. Also, how does it perform with the dual coil build, compared to others? I've mainly seen it compared to single coils. Thanks!

What kind of device do you use? I know it's a bit higher than your price range, but the Modfather RTA is amazing. I've also heard really good things about the ijoy Exo, which is below $50.

I have the iJoy Exo rta & the Merlin Mini. I think the Exo is the better choice. They both have a single & dual coil deck. They both have airflow restrictor pin (removable). The Exo has a 2ml & 6ml extension they Merlin Mini only has 2ml capacity. Flavor & air on the Exo is excellent with the restrictor pin in is similar to Merlin Mini without restrictor pin. There's a thread on both on ECF.

Heartsdelight, for both, do they heat up significantly with low ohms/high wattage? And how do the dual coil builds (if you use that deck) compare to attys that are solely dual coil? I feel like I'll use dual more, though I'm not sure.

I don't really vape on high wattage but I imagine the Mini would get hot. I haven't used the dual coil decks yet cos I'm happy with the single coil. Go check out the threads on ECF, you'll get the answers to your questions. I got my Exo for about $25 so worth trying a lot of peeps love it.

Edit: that's the beauty though you get both decks than you can see what your preference is.

Oh, the Modfather. What a beautiful, obscenely beastly piece of tank that is. I have been thinking about it. I'm leaning towards going smaller, cause my mod is so chunky, but I have been thinking about.

I'm using a DNA 200 mod from Mad Modders. And I actually don't mind the 2ml capacity. It's a pain to refill, but it doesn't really bother me. Not opposed to something bigger, though.

In my merlin minis, I have a huge ss fused clapton. Around 0.16, 60w @440f. In another, kanthal alien, 0.21, 55w. I've never had heating problems. One of my favorite rtas. Huge flavors

Oh, good, that's one of my main worries. Thank you.

I also really want to know how the dual coil deck performs, especially compared to other dual coil RTAs.

Honestly, used the dual deck for about 25 mins, then switched back to single coil. You might want to look into something like the ammitt dual, which comes with a silicone plug for single coils.
