Activision confirmed today that Overwatch has now exceeded 15 million players globally, “including box and digital sales, internet game room players, and multi-user console households.” The news comes via the publisher’s second-quarter earnings report. Overwatch players have spent a combined total of around 500 million hours in the game, according to the publisher.
The report also noted Blizzard had the biggest online player community in its history during the previous quarter, buoyed by the rapid success of Overwatch and supported by the continuing popularity of the likes of Hearthstone and World of Warcraft.
Hot on the heels of this news Blizzard itself has announced the inaugural Overwatch World Cup, which will be held at Blizzcon 2016 in November.
