Plz help with roped tanks

I have no idea what the rope is. I don't know why people say you have to turn these "clearomizers" upside down. This is my mode of inquiry. Hopefully some advanced user knows what I'm refering to....

How do you use these kinds of tanks? I may be mistaken but I think I just ordered one or I'm about to order one I mean. So when I get it how do I know what the rope is for? Is it the wick? The cotton I mean? But don't you obviously need the juice to be where the coil is at (which is at the top for these kinds of tanks, duh!)? The coil is on top, so how does juice get in?

Also, why do people run water over these types of coils/tanks? Does that not ruin the "wicks"?

Yes the "ropes" is your wick. The old clearomizers have a coil that is located towards the top where the wick is, unlike the tanks today that have a coil at the bottom. If your ejuice gums up your wick, you can rinse it off without ruining it.

In newer clearomizers though you are also able to get plenty of juice to go straight to the coil. How do you expect to get juice to turn to vapor when no juice touches the coil? Is it just that you need your "ropes" saturated enough? Is that honestly all? Can someone plz explain.

Is it that simple.... I don't understand.

Ya they just need to be saturated enough. The clearomizers with that kind of wick would have had a very high resistance and low power going to the coil. So it would not burn juice quickly enough to dry out the wick.

Yes will I have to turn it upside down though to saturate the coil itself. Is that why they turn it upside down? Sorry for nub questions.

If your juice is real thick or the tank is low you might have to turn it upside down. You'll know it if your wick gets to dry because your hits will start tasting burnt or harsh

While I'm not entirely sure whether you're asking about old-school top coil clearomizers that have long silica (that's what the "rope" is called) wicks that dip into the liquid and wick it up into the coil, but I suspect you are. The best advice on these I can give, rather than explaining how they work, is to recommend you avoid them like work on a Friday afternoon...

I started out with a Vivi Nova, not so great.
Even a Kanger PT2 is way better...

For a better explanation, it's harder for the juice to travel uphill to feed the coil, (gravity at work here).
A BCC, (or bottom coil clearomizer), doesn't have to fight gravity so it wicks easier, very important.
And the shorter wicks help too, plus better flavor IMO.
