I Like Nick too. I'm not a huge fan of how his fan base acts around him though. The guys/gals themselves are pretty cool for the most part. The problem is that they act like groupies when it comes to him. I'm all for building communities and friendships based around common interests ... And even getting a little over-excited about it (I'm guilty of that often) ... but it get's a little ridiculous with Nick's fans.

Sherlock Hohms, now also Hometown Hero or something... Has a juice line with that name

I watched his videos more than anyone else's when I started learning

No shit? I carry the Hometown Hero juice on my site. But the dude I spoke with that owns the company never mentioned anything about coils - and he knows what I do.

Yah I like Nick himself ... he seems pretty down to earth and not to overly egotistical. So I'll watch his live stream on occasion, when I'm in the mood to build but can't for whatever reason and if her happens to be on at that time. But I don't like his tutorials for the most part. They are so drawn out. But, if you have the umph to sit through the sludge you pick up some little pearls on occasion. Almost all of what I learned from tutorials comes from The Dood. A little bit of Local Vape (OhmBoy OC). Some OhmBoyJosh here and there. And a little n.devine. But the last two are a lot of skipping around a single video till I get to what I'm looking for out of it. But, Honestly, for the most part, most of what I learned past claptons and aliens was self taught through trial and error. And of course with quick tips from other builders. I'd say that framed staples were my biggest investment into googling for help. And to tell the truth the most helpful thing I found, to at least get me started in the right direction, was right here on these forums, before I ever joined. By @BKTOAD , post #7 in THIS THREAD. As well as getting a start on staggering from THIS THREAD. around the same time.

For me it's been practically the same as you about the videos, but I tried to watch Nick and I tried to watch him a second time after that, and I just can't do it for 10 minutes without abandoning his videos... like watching paint dry, but please feel free to navigate me to his "some little pearls on occasion", lol. Just add Coil Mother Fudger, Twisted Messes (Kent), and M.Terk to the "informative and helpful instead of being 99.99% sludge" list... and BTW... the tip I recently gave you on how to get rid of the metallic taste of Kanthal comes directly from one of Squidoode's build video tutorials.

i agree 100 precent with you with that. Nick is great guy but he could be so much better with his videos

I like this picture...so clean, so organized. I "cleaned" my desk today before I started...it's a wreck now, after lots of failiens, I will try to take a picture of it tomorrow before I clean it again


It needs some serious organization, I have wire in a storage drawer that I don't even know what all is there...

I see my Nemesis. I want to make them so bad. Get everything set up and it collapsed while fusing or twists when wrapping. Like aahhhhh. Great job.

Well, collapsing is 1 of 2 things
1) Prep is not tight enough. Try mounting ONLY the ribbon loop through the swivel. That way the ribbon takes all the tension and is always nice and tight.
2) To much fuse tension. Lighten up on the spool while fusing.

Also ... if you notice a colapse starting then stop and pinch with the nylons. Unless it's completely F'd then that should straighten things up for you.

Don't EVER be afraid to stop mid fuse and work on your stick if you need to. I've made a butt tone of SSFC's and very rarely do I get to just fuse all the way down without stopping at least once or twice.

Edit - was going to fix the typos ... but "butt tone" is just to great to get rid of LMAO!!!!
