Thinking about doing my own liquids and wondering if buying the pre mixed VG PG stuff is good to start with then just add the flavors I want?

Depends on if the PG/VG ratio matches what you like.
Taking into account the 10-15% more PG to be added with the flavors, plus any Nic if used.
Unless your premix has NIC included already.

Where are you looking at possibly getting your bases from? For starting out, I found myfreedomsmokes.com to be most useful for lower quanities of VG, PG, and Nic. They also have a ton of flavors in 15mL bottles around $3, which is great for starting out. Just a suggestion from someone who was in the same spot, but yeah, I wouldn't go with premixed VG/PG. It is pretty easy to use the website / app calcs to figure out exactly what measurements you need to make whatever ratio you want. And Heabob hit it dead on, flavors are almost always PG based and Nic can be whatever ratio you order, so that is going to throw you off if you don't mix it all yourself. Hope everything goes well!

The other disadvantage of pre-mixed is it's harder to adjust your NIC level lower.
Say for dripping, or certain tanks, coils, etc.
Although you can dilute it with PG or VG later if needed.
Amount of flavoring/s varies quite a bit between brands, flavors, and recipes.
From 2% all the way up to 30%+.
Look around in the Recipes thread for examples of percents used in recipes.
Or ask for help when you get your flavors and stuff.
