Pre-wrapped coil advise

Hey everyone

So we have a Vaper here in SA who has a disability due to a bike accident. He has partial use of his left hand and is struggling to wrap his own coils.

I've suggested to do a packet full of coils for him that he just needs to push into the posts and then tighten then down .

So I was thinking of doing 26g - 5,6,7,8 wraps and also for 28g and 24g

Any recommendations on what I should do for this guy ? I always build a new coil on the spot and have never really built a coil in advance .

Kind of hard to give a general answer.. What kind of rig does he have? How much power? What range are his coils in now? etc...

At 26g, you would be looking at anywhere from .6 to 1.1 ohms with those wraps. I would base it on what wattage he has available, i.e. - the .6 ohm build would fire nicely around 15-20w where as the 1.1 ohm build would take around 30w... Of course, firing "nicely" is subjective; it depends on how he likes to vape, etc. If he's got plenty of headroom with the available power, then an assortment would allow him to decide which he likes so that's one way of looking at it.

Nice of you to fix him up like that...

I agree with @Swerved - nice offer, but we'd need to know more about your friend's gear and how he likes to vape to suggest a coil. If possible, maybe you could build him some 24g coils and help install - even installation sounds like it would be tricky one-handed. From there all he'd have to do is re-wick, the thicker wire could last a month or more between rebuilds if he takes care of it...

His current rig is a smpl mech mod with a troll rda. He was wrongly advised that a mech is the best thing to move onto from an ego device and has already purchased it.

So I'm going to give him an istick and a tank for him to use for his daily device, make a packet full of different coils for him to keep and get his wife to assist him with and throw in a few 100mls of juice.

Should I preheat the coils with a torch to get rid of the hotspots ?

Good idea on going with a regulated device for safety, though I'm not an iStick fan, even though I use one...It's hard to tell how a coil is going to behave until it's installed, though - torching may help, but he'll still have to dry fire it and squeeze it with tweezers to get it burning right once it's installed, because the installation process might get it a little bent out of shape.

Get him a good sub-ohm tank and a good regulated mod and he should be good to go. As for his mech mod pre made coils is good. But don't underestimate the power of people with a disability, they learn work-arounds for their disabilities.

The gf has donated her istick and sub tank mini and I've made a pack of about 300ml of juice.

I've done 5 coils each of 4.5.6.7 wraps in 28.26.24 g wire

Also a few sheets of jap cotton and also some pre cut into suitable wicks

Got him a set of pliers, tweezers, scissors, extra wire, nail clipper, ohm meter

Packed in a spare tugboat atty, 2 bay charger, 2 Samsung batteries

I've gotten him a kuro this morning. Haven't had much chance to play around with it .

I'm going to see him tomorrow with his new toys and help him and his wife with everything

The trick is to put the screw in the right position for the thickness of the wire, and don't apply pressure, twist only!
