so what are your preferred coil setups? im new to coil building and have built a total of 4, first 2 were junk, second 2 I did twisted 28 ga at .23 ohms and its pretty awesome. good clouds, great flavor, heats up quick, feels more like a drag from a really big and heavy cigarette (recently quit so that's good for me) but im still doing a lot of studying and research on different builds, both basic and advanced.

so lets see em. whats your preferred coil builds.

I've been building for RDA's and RTA's for at least a year now. I make mostly simple coils. I have had/have about every tool they make for making coils. I am most stuck to my Universal Tool (similar to a Kuro coiler).

But I think I am going to do a few Claptons and fused Claptons.

I have built other types of coils, but for all the work, I didn't see much if any, improvement in the vape. IMO, just a lot of work to say "Hey! Check this shit out!".

24 gauge is my go to wire, but I have it down to 32 or 34 gauge. All Kenthal.

I just built a single spaced 8 wrap coil and it read 1.7 ohms. bit higher than I really wanted but it will work. hoping I can use the higher ohm coil at work to save on my batteries and juice while still getting a satisfying vape and use my sub ohms at home and at the shop. ill know how it works here in about an hour.

I don't know what type of mod you are running, but I assume it's just a single battery mod or a internal battery mod.

I personally prefer a dual battery mod, for battery life.

The coil you made is probably pretty high. You will only likely want to run it 10-20 watts. And you won't get much vapor, I'd bet.

I run dual coils, at .5 ohm total, at 45-50 watts. A full set of batteries will last me half a day.

If I raise my ohms, it loose flavor and vape production.

@freemind exactly. I just did my first Quad today, and yes it does chuck clouds. And flavor is intese. But all in all, the simple builds Always perform. I also like to go to a 24g at about 7-8 wraps, reads around .35-.42ohms. Also 26g is a good wire for something thats thinner but not too thin (IMO). Most complex I usually go is a nice parrallel build with the 24g.

well, I just ran it at 75 watts and made as much vapor as my dual twisted did at .23 ohms at 40 watts. the only difference I noticed was how long it took for the coil to heat up and the amount of watts needed to produce the same vape. which I was a little depressed about and am about to rebuild for that reason. and assuming is never a good idea but I should have posted my equipment in my first post. sig 150w tc. currently using a cheap rba from the shop waiting on my mutation x v4 that should be here Tuesday.

You can still make that cheap rba chuck at least a little. Do you have any other gauges of wire other than 28g?

Edit: at least you should be able to with that 150w sigeli

Cant help but notice your coils are overlapping eachother, whatre you using to wrap them?

mine aren't overlapping, they're just not twisted as tight as they probably should have been so it looks like theyre overlapping.

These past couple of months, I've been running something like this 90% of the time.
IMG_20151227_232216.jpg

Lil baby claps on a series mech. 40g/28g. This one's 2mm and ohms out at .69. Tiny coils with lots of heat, flavor and vapor. Very dense, heavy stuff. The higher gauges help keep the heat retention down, so it never beats the wicks, even with 8v rapidly heating it. Claptons aren't show-coils. When balanced to the right power source, they're extremely effective and practical. These little coils defy physics. Excruciatingly worth the trouble of keeping fresh ones on deck, which isn't much, imo. Fancy coils are for shits and giggles. These get me through my day.

I like fancy coils... but I wouldn't want to run them on my box lol just seems like too much of a hassle, ill stick to my basics. may try a Clapton one day.

Fancy coils work..... theres a reason people do em its not just to show pics of them on instagram... some work better than others. Clapton coil seems to be the best thing out there though as theyre easy to do and boost flavor on any atty.

Watchu got for a mod? Looks like a Sig 150. Claptons are great on that box. I used to run mine on that before I picked up this series mod and found my current-standing holy grail vape. Can't recommend them enough. Unlike fancier multi-wire coils, these are easy to tweak by doing batches of assortments.

I implore you to give it a shot. Get yourself some 28/26/24 and some 34/36/38.

I started doing them as a side project during building time. I was like, "Yeah, I better build this... ...might as well try some claptons too." until the day when the claptons beat what I had originally set out to build.

Right now rocking dual coil twisted 28g 7 wraps in my tank and dripper. My go-to is dual coil 7 wrap 24g. If you like twisted 28g you will definitely like 24g. I have some 22g on the way, going to see what thats about.

My preferred coil is a ni200 28g dual coil with 15 wraps around a 3mm coil jig. Ohms out at .10

So how do you like that Noisy Cricket so far? I ask because I've got one coming sometime in the near future from China.

Single core or fused?

I dunno, dude. Many are for Instagram (I've done a few). But I made a framed staple coil last week that just punched with flavor. It takes a good amount of power to run it, though. No way I'll be able to run something like that on the Cricket when it eventually gets here.

I like it a lot. I use it more frequently than any other mod I own. My only gripe with it is the threading, which is pretty rough and requires cleaning more often than any other mech I've owned. Other than that, it's a killer vape. And it's so tiny! The vape has a very different character from that of high-powered regulated mods. It hits harder, but it is also very smooth. I wouldn't say it's objectively superior. It's just a different approach with a unique range of sweet spots that I happen to like quite a lot. It gets you thinking about your builds in new and often very rewarding ways.

Single. Call me crazy, but even with 28g, I think fused is too much. I do want to try a fused 30 or 32 gauge core, though.

I wasn't meaning to imply that they don't vape as well as other coils. I was more speaking to the impracticality of them. Many of them do vape as good as they look, but the process is very involved and the consistency from build to build isn't always so good. Most of the time, it's one of those things that you do just to do. I would never call a show-build my preferred build on that basis alone.

Absolutely agree 100%. Most of my "show builds" are not my preferred use builds. Gimme a fused Clapton any day.

I bet that Cricket and the Quad Fused Clapton Build we did would be a great vape though!

Only if I wanna be left with only one usable hand and a possible hole in my face. That setup uses about 42 amps. With my 25Rs, I'm limited to 20 amps continuous pulse with a max of 8.4 volts. Even with VCT4s, you'd be making a huge mistake running that build on a dual 18650 series mod.

With the same exact build yes.. but maybe a 30 or 32 core and 40g+ wraps, plus I use kanthal cores...

I was thinking more along the lines of a 2x28K/38N, 8.5 wrap, 2.5mm ID dual coil build.
That'll put me a little under 20 amps @8.4 volts, 0.44Ω

I dont mind running it a bit warmer then 20a, I do have 2-3 HB6's...but They wouldn't be a ADV since they are short lived, but a Tri-coil might be worth a try :D I havent got the NC yet but I do plan on it but the Indestructible rda isnt something Im interested in using with it like most, I think the PhenotypeL and its mini would be perfect for it.

I prefer 20-26g kanthal in dual coils. With 24 and 26, I usually go average, usually parallel or twisted with my ohms from .14-.4 (anything below .2 going straight to my mech). But with 20g I go massive. Macro coils wrapped 10-15 times, 130+ watts (because screw battery life lol)

getting some nice vapor and flavor off 10wrap 24g in the sub ohm tank. Not sure what size I wrapped it around but whatever fits should work. At .41ohms vaping at 28watts and up
