So, I just made my first two parallel coils. Now, I'm not sure if I just did things weird or what, but I made two dual parallels instead of just making a quad parallel. Damn these babies put out. I used 26agw kanthal wire. Six wraps on a 3mm screw driver gives me about 0.24 ohms after compressing and wicking. I was aiming for 0.2 even. I'm going to have to try five wraps next time.
They're a little sloppy looking right now in my Tugboat V2 clone though.
The coils in parallel don't line up quite right and they aren't quite straight. As for how they fire though?

About a quarter of a second after hitting the firing button. 26agw has almost no ramp up time compared to 24 or 22agw.
