Question About the istick 50w

Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum but have been vaping almost 3 years. Anyway, I just purchased the istick 50. My other 2 mods are the 20w and 30w. The 20 had good power, the 30 never seemed to, hence getting the 50w. I tried it last night for the first time and the hit was harsh and burnt tasting. The mod was set at 20w, then 15w, finally 10w did better. On all the batteries, I am using the Kanger Protank 2 with Kanger 1.8 coils. The 50w says coils can range from .2-5, so mine fall within there. If everything seems to be compatible, where could the problem be? I don't mind vaping it at 10w if that's what I have to do, but it just seems odd. Also, I have noticed my ohms read at 2.3 and rarely 1.8. I know this is a pretty newb question, but I have been doing this all on my own and have been trying to read up on ohms and all that other scientific stuff, but I'm stuck as to what the problem is or if it's even a problem. Any feedback is appreciated! TIA

I also have the 50w (and a 30 & 40) and Protanks with 1.8 coils. I don't go much above 11 or 12 w with them. I know the Istick is capable of going much higher but with those tanks it's not a good idea,, that's where your burning is coming from. For me, it doesn't matter that I'm only using a small portion of the power it's capable of as long as I get a good vape out of it. You may want to look into a subohm tank. If I understand it correctly, that's what you need in order to use all that power. I'm happy at 12 w,,, I get almost four days use out of my Istick 50w. One other thing,,, get in the habit every time you refill your tank to tighten down your coil. They can get loose and give a false reading. Hope this helps

Thank you, Kimber! I do tighten the coils every time I fill and sometimes in between because they somehow manage to come loose. Well, it sounds like what I am experiencing is normal, so I'm good with that. Thanks again for the help!

With the Kanger Protank 2 with Kanger 1.8 coils I use to vape between 8, and 10 watts depending on the juice used.

Seems vapers buy high wattage mods, and really never use higher watts. But at least with the iStick 50 your battery life will last a longer time using 1.8 ohm coils at 10 watts.

I'm using pretty much the same setup at 7 watts max.
If I go any higher I usually get a burnt taste.
But I'm using home made 1.5mm Kanthal micro coils so it's a bit thin for the cotton wicking.
Lucky if I can get 8 hrs on a battery if I'm chain vaping in front of my PC.

I have the iStick 50w and what I have found is that it will round up or down your ohms depending. I recently purchased the Aspire .5 ohm Claptons, and it read them as .6 ohms, because they come in at .57. What I also noticed after I almost killed myself, is that at 45 watts at .6 ohms I was pushing 5.01 volts. After 2 days of vaping this coil at a lower wattage than is recommended, the ohms dropped to .5 ohms and now at 45 watts, I'm pushing 4.7 volts. All that being said your coil may break in and allow you to crank up the wattage a little after a few days.
