I tryed to make a claptonlast night i twisted 24 g kanthal and wraped 26 around it its all i have but i cant get the wire to stay touching are they ok to use with small gaps between wraps

So if I understand correctly, you twisted 2 strands of 24ga, and then Claptoned it with 26ga? And I'm assuming you mean that some of the Clapton wraps don't touch (are spaced apart)?

That should be fine. The current will take the core as the main, and use the Clapton as an insulator. Since the core will have less resistance, that's where the current will flow (just like the saying "The path of least resistance"). So as the core heats up, the outer layers are heated by the core, not from having power pass through them. Quite alot of people will purposely have their entire Clapton spaced (which is necessary when Helixing) and it runs perfectly fine. I've run a single coil spaced Clapton (20ga, spaced claptoned with 28ga, 8 wraps around 3mm ID @ around 0.35ohm) and it worked great, so I see no reason why yours shouldn't (plus I've built my fair share of half-assed Claptons and they still worked too)
