Car repairs do suck. Not sure what other shops around the country charge for stuff. The shop I worked for our average repair was around $3200. Some days were cheap oil changes and inspections, others were around $13-14k for engine replacements. Then there was one poor guy who when I looked up the repair history just since the shop went to a computerized system (they did paper tickets before), had racked up just over $30k in maintenance and repairs on his 88 saab 9000 non turbo.

The owner used to charge him extra whenever he left a 3-5 page note detailing the work he wanted done and the issues he was bringing it in for. Like around $50 for having to read it.

Yea. Well the vast majority of it was for the engine itself, a crate motor from Jaguar doesn't come cheap. I think that ran around $9500. I felt really bad for the guy, his motor blew because he hardly drove it. It was a 2001 vanden plas with a 4.0 v8 and less than 30k mi on it. It's an interference motor and it uses oil pressure to keep the timing in check. Since it sat for so long it lost its prime and he kept trying to start it in his garage.

Kept telling the old guy who owned it if he didn't have anyone to leave the car to, will it to me lol. That car was mint and drove like it was brand new even when it was 7-8yrs old.

The rest of the repair bill was system flushes, maintenance, labor to install etc.

After 4 olympic swimmers were mugged in Rio I'd be interested to see how their proficiency improved in the 100m dash. :bliss:

Random gripe... One mortgage payment left!!! YAY!!! NO... Husband decides to buy a $43,000 motorcycle, while he still has payments on 2 others, there aren't enough expletives to relay my feelings atm.

We were supposed to have a plan...
Pay off the house
Get an Equity loan for repairs (back porch still a wreck since '04 hurricanes, husband is a contractor)
THEN buy Investment property to prepare for retirement (we're early 50's, hoping to have 15 yrs each of work to pay for it)
Pay for sons college so he won't have loans

SO, we will be in NO better shape after the mortgage is gone next month, the only difference IS, we will be paying for his luxury item instead of a home.

Nix the above PLAN

ARE YOU FLIPPING KIDDING ME????
