Rba for subox mini question

First off, although I've been vaping for 2 years, I've only had a mod for 3 weeks so I'm a bit ignorant, but more intelligent than the average beginner... Or so I think.

I have the subox/kbox mini from kangertech. Currently using the .5 ohm coil. I did build one with the rba kit it came with, but my problem was that it was crackling/popping A LOT. I read that I had to suck harder lol but noticed I was using a lot of juice.. too much for my liking. I'm wondering if this is the price I pay for being a vape addict lol or if I needed to up my wattage ? It was shootin at around 20. Had to bring it down to 16 when I first fire it off & then slowly raise it to warm it up. Also, a piece of the wick shot at me! I was like WOAH NO SIR YOU CAN'T DO THAT!! THAT IS NOT ALLOWED! ... yes I yelled at my mod.. yes I am a girl (genetically).

ANYWHO, if I could stop talking so much I could ask... 1. Correct wattage for .5 rba, 2. wth was with the wick? , 3. should I go back to the prebuilt until I buy a bigger mod ? :(

Thanks ! :)

The popping kinda comes with the territory, i find that turning up the wattage helps. As far as the watts you should fire it at, thats up to you and also kinda depends in the kind of juice youre vaping... if its high vg juice it will probably have a hard time keeping up with wicking in high wattage... gotta play with it until you find your sweet spot.

You juice usage will go up with subohm usage. But it shouldn't be too high, unless you're using a tank like the Smok. I use 10-15ml a day with my Kanger. But I'm also a chain vapor.

And it wasn't the wick that shot at you, it was the juice heating up.

Wattage is a personal preference. I use 18-24 subohm. 8-14 with a 1.2 build.

I have had no issues running 80VG in mine. Here is a video from almost a year ago, but this method has worked the best in mine...

For what it is, the Subtank RBA is decent for its simplicity but not for its overall function. I've had good results with a 24g kanthal 5 wraps on 2.5mm for .4ohms or so. Wick like the pancake method and it'll keep up with wattage in the 30-40 range just fine. If you are getting a ton of spit back, try raising the wattage to vaporize the juice faster, it may help a bit.

From my understanding to why you might get juice in your mouth from a kanger subtank RBA is that your vaping a low ohm coil with not enough power and your more or less boiling the juice and spitting up. Pulling too hard with not enough power is another culprit to juice spit up. I blow down till I see a nice plume come out the base then I take my vape, thicker wire low ohm coils need some ramp up time to heat up or you might just get juice up the mouthpiece. Using the RBA you should make the coil lower than the deck (if you look at stock pics), if you build a larger diameter coil and have it too high you will either melt the tank airflow chimney like I did or restrict the airflow and have juice up the mouthpiece. If the spit up persists then you might have to look into putting a silica flavor wick ontop the coil to stop the spit back.

Thanks guys! I was thinking higher wattage but wasn't sure. Do you know if it uses more juice or not? As opposed to occ

My wife is a tootle puffer a 1.6 ohm at 10 watts and she goes through twice as much juice with her subtank RBA than she did with her protank. Be prepared cause the subtanks sure can go through the juice. I can easily go through 10+mls a day, even more if I'm just lazing around watching TV or sitting on the comp. I didn't even use the stock coil, just tore them apart and put my own build into them. I don't have faith in any stock factory wire nor their maybe questionable wicking material.

I use much the same build in my SUBOX RBA or what ever you call it. 24g Kanthal, 2.37" ID, 5 raps, .40 ohm at 30 watts or under. I just don't pancake the wick. I cut it off flush with the top of the can and stuff. Never ever get a dry hit, bubbles like crazy. And no leaking at all. A new build will spit juice like crazy for the first 30 pulls or so. Then it calms right down. It does pop and crackle.

There are a lot of factors in building your own coils and how they work. So it may or may not. I know in general my custom builds use less juice than prebuilt coils I've used. I don't use the same tank you are but on my TFV4 the premade quad coils use probably 25% more juice than my custom built high powered vertical coil, and probably twice as much as my dual coil build.

And yes crackling will happen, but may happen less if you turn your wattage up. Gurgling is a sign that you're getting too much juice into the coilhead that's something you'll want to fix by blowing into the tank and firing it, then upping the wattage.

As far as your wick shooting off, well what are you using? There are a lot of great options, personally I use Koh Gen Do cotton pads and I've never had that shoot off, but I could see it happen when the cotton I started with as that stuff was pretty crappy.

I honestly think it was user error with the wick.. I didn't saturate it enough. Thanks for the advice on the spittage! I'll keep that in mind.
