RDA not enough juice?

I'm used to RTA's and trying out my friends RDTA I removed the tank and made it into just a dripper (smok skyhook RDTA). However, the flavor dulls after the first 2 or 3 hits and slowly diminishes. I've read of people getting 10+ hits on well built drippers. I can get more hits than 2 or 3 but there is no flavor..?

Is this normal with drippers?
Do I just need longer cotton (to hold more juice)?
Purchasing a real RDA with a small juice reservoir might help?

The reservoir in an RDA is usually known as the well, and they can vary a great deal. I've only tried RDAs with fairly deep wells, because I'm not gonna re-drip after every 2-3 hits, that's crazy. I vape at a very low power level, usually around 9.5w, so my Achilles, which holds about 2.5ml, lasts me nearly half a day -- and that frequency, I can deal with, because I can't get any flavor anymore out of any tank system. This is the real downside of RDAs -- so much flavor, you get used to that, and nothing else satisfies. If convenience is very important to you, you'd be best off with tanks of whatever kind, because RDAs with wells like the Achilles' just aren't out there -- the Magma, or Magma Reborn, both hold more than the average, around 1ml I think, but they also POUR juice if you tilt them much out of straight-up vertical.

The thing you mentioned about the flavor -- that's very true; since they don't hold much, you notice the drop-off in flavor pretty quickly, depending on the well depth and the wick length -- the longer the wick, the slower the diminishment, so you get a hint before you get that dreaded dry hit, and you learn to know that taste -- either less flavor, or a taste of metal, and you know it's time to refill.

This is what the "reservoir" of my Vaperz Cloud Obese Buddha RDA looks like... it is a 36mm RDA:

:p My point being... if you're looking for intense flavor and a deep juice well in a quality RDA, then get something like the Mini Buddha 2 RDA, for example (I own 2 of them), and also consider to use Cotton Bacon Prime for your wicks as it keeps up with the faster juice evaporation of angry coil builds better compared to other wicking material, and it actually even tastes cleaner in addition to that.

This also HEAVILY relies on what coils are in the RDA.....

I have a few RDTAs and none have juice wells that is what the tank is for. I just got a Vandy Vape Pulse BF mod today I just wanted to try out squonking. That seems to be the way to go with a RDA it was only $30 now I need to get a refill bottle because refilling is messy

Yeah, nothing trumps Squonker for "juice wells" ;-)

I did get and try one of these oddball things. No review worth spit out there, but it works as I expected: you vape awhile, then block the air-intakes and SUCK - release intakes and vape more. I ran thru a tank with the Pulse-24 and never had to drip.

That oddball thing would be great if it worked like it's suppose to. I have one of those and the Innokin LIFT and neither work properly.

This pulse mod seems to work fine. You just squeeze the bottle and it shoots liquid on to coils.

Does it have those really wide, skinny air slots? I dislike those, so much air will always bypass the coil and way mute flavor

Air holes need to be at least slightly more narrow (long-ways) than a coil, imo, and from there just made Taller to let more air in as needed

Or of course bottom airflow, but that can be a double-edged sword - awesome flavor, but coils might get dark on top faster, and then having to be careful not to overdrip, or to not drip on the wrong spot (and then right down the air holes)

I do love to squonk, but don't own one with two batteries and need two batteries for cloud builds.

Yea I'm using the phobia it has bottom and side airflow. Its real easy to over squonk and if your dripping you can't drip on coils or its going to leak.

I mostly squonk now, so I wouldn't dare order the phobia. I follow Jai Haze a bit. This was one occasion I found he wasn't being overly critical.

I guess it's nice to get a squonk pin with every RDA, but every RDA doesn't need a SQ pin. The only bottom AF I have used on a squonker was the tsunami24. And imo it's just as easy to leak squonking as it is when you drip. Actually it's easier to leak dripping if your careful squonking.

I don't mind button air flow but it's not my favorite. And to be honest, there are some bottom AF attys that lack flavor. Just because an atomizer had bottom AF doesn't mean it's got great flavor.

Let me know how you like the phobia. I see people either love it or hate it.

It looks great for squonking imo, the air holes look at least 2mm above the deck, with the juice from the BF pin being directed sideways towards where the cotton would be *shrug*. Guess I'll find out!
