I feel like this may be a dumb question, but whats the difference between an RDA and its clone? Is one better than the other?

lol simply put, the original rda (or original anything) comes from who designed it. clones come from china copying their design and selling it at a much lower price. as you can imagine there is a lot of debate around this in the community

in some cases the clones are better, in some cases they are a disgrace to humanity. have to know your way around the clone market to an extent to get the good ones

I've noticed the price differences, but besides that, are they any others? Are clones worth buying? I've been looking at getting either a doge v2 or a plume veil, but all I can find are veil clones. I'm just trying to get all the info I can before spending more money than I have to. haha.

focus on who manufactures it and reviews. tobeco, sxk, infinite, ehpro are good ones

aethertech designed the plume veil but they cant meet demand or even come close (at 10x the price too), another reason clones come into play. for me i buy authentic regulated mods bc clone chips suck imo. but clone attys are literally the same thing but much much cheaper, just so long as it has good reviews manufactured by a good company.

Best bet when you're just getting into things is to find a style you think you'll enjoy (sounds like you've already got a couple solid contenders there) then check out reviews on the specific clone you are looking at. If you're ordering an item from fasttech there's usually multiple reviews on the item and people will usually indicate if there are consistent issues.

Also, there are a few really great authentics that can be had for <$40:
Mutation X
Freakshow - I'd highly recommend this one once you have some experience building, I got the mini for ~$25 and it's my favorite!

RDA.- Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer
RBA- Rebuildable atomizer
RTA- Rebuildable Tank Atomizer

Many vapers will never buy an authentic because they cant afford it. However, certain companies design their product in the US, but outsource the manufacturing to china, so these are authentics, just chinese made. These will be your best bang for your buck. This doesnt mean all chinese clones are of poor quality. In my experience, most clones work just fine and very few are poorly made. Do your research on clone companies such as tobeco, hcigar, infinate, ehpro, for example. Also, not every clone company makes every model the same. So homework on specific models, from specific companies, is an absolute must.

For someone starting out, buy a few clones, see what design you like (ie. external airflow ring, internal airflow control, high airholes, low airholes, side or top airflow, loose draw, tight draw, among other options...), before you drop money on an authentic.
