So started Vaping about 2 years ago.... Went from EGO/Protank to Mechs and RDAs and RTAs. I started with a mech so I could learn about coil building and battery safety. Before going to a regulated that would do that stuff for me. I am a bit of a luddite, and don't really trust technology and tools, especially where safety is concerned.

So I think I am ready to go regulated.... BUT, I hear lots about poor battery life with most regulated mods. On my mechs I change batteries 1 time a day, sometimes 2. Using Crappy Efest 35A or Samsung 25R batteries. I Vape at around 1ohm plus or minus a couple points. Call it less than 25watts or less unregulated. I want to be able to run a 1 ohm coil at 15-25 watts or so, all day. But, I don't want to have to carry a pocket full of batteries to do it. I would prefer Squonker, but those are very limited and I imagine, to go that route, I will have to build it. The mod will be running RTAs, I have several Kayfuns and a couple Genesis tanks I will be running with the mod.

What Mods fit my desires? What Kind of battery life do you get from your mods, running .5ohm or higher coils?

A squonker will likely be a single battery mod. It will need batteries changed as often as your mech.

A dual battery mod will likely last you two days before needing new batteries. There is MANY choices to choose from. Sigelei, IPV, etc.. etc.. etc..

Tell us what you are interested in, and lots of us can offer experience.

Battery life in a single battery mod (or a dual) gets shitty when you sub ohm and run high watts. I have an IPV 3Li and run an RDA at .4-.5 ohms, 60 watts, and chain vape. I change batteries 2-3 times a day.

My wife has a IPV mini at 1.8 ohms, 9 watts, and the single battery lasts her 2-3 days.

My go-to regulated mod is the eVic VTC Mini. It arrived as a 60w mod, and after the upgrade (download, connect, install) it's now a 75w mod, also capable of TC. I'm a MTL vaper, most builds are between 1.2 and 1.5 using mainly RTAs lately. I do also have premade coils at 0.5 ohms and use those as well. Typically, I get a full day of vaping using this set up. I'm using LG HE2 and LG HG2 batts. I also use an iPV min 30w, a Koopor Mini 60w, a Balrog 70w that I get a full day from.

I get about a day & a half out of my Kanger 120 watt (dual 18650). Works great with my Crown tank.
I paid $31.00 for it new.

Ahh, maybe I'm getting it now. Correct me if I'm wrong for the most part, battery Life will be determined by the watts run.. So I should expect life to be pretty close to what I get with my Mechs, watt for watt.

Now, the question is if 2 battery Regulated mod which would be better for Battery life, series or parallel? Remember I don't really intend to need more than 6v. My target right now is an All Day Vape running at around 5 volts or whatever watts that is. At minimum, I want to be able to vape the vape I get off a freshly charge battery in my mechs, all day long. Rather than the little bit less with each hit I get now. I don't want to HAVE to carry a spare battery or charger, unless I will be away from home for 12 hours or more. Even though I do tend to carry a spare most time I'll be out more than 4 hours. Unless I go squonker I already will have to carry a bottle of juice. I rarely carried multiple lighters or more than 1 pack, when I smoked. I don't want to carry a bunch of batteries to vape.

There's always the Reuxleux, or however it's spelled. It holds 3 batteries. With the way you might be using it, it'd maybe last you a couple days, LOL.

If you want to get technical with this, a regulated APV will give you a little less battery life than an unregulated box due to chip efficiency power loss of around 10% more or less depending on the quality of the chip in the mod you buy, so a regulated mod should give you about 90% of the battery run-time you would get on a mech.

Too Big. And too ugly.

I'm not That worried, about battery life. I just, always got the impression there was a bigger difference. I figured there would be an efficency loss. I assumed, the electronics are stealing 5-10%. That I can deal with. I run a 5 battery per mod rotation as is.
I guess it's a matter of perspective. Starting out with Mechanicals instead of regulation. I do remember when Sub-ohm was just getting going. There were a lot of battery life issues then, too. Regulation and more recently Temperature control. I thought were supposed to fix the battery life issues.

Oh Well, I guess i just look at regulation from the added performance point of view.

What I, really, want is a Variable Volt 1-6v, that can handle about 30amp on 1, 18650 sized, battery and preferably a squonker. That stands with atty No taller than a 18500 tube mech with a SAT22 on top. Oh and that costs about $50 or less.

VF Stout. It's a 100w device, uses a single 26650 (which I get 2-2.5 days out of), OR an 18650. Easy battery change, TC for SS & Ni. Firmware upgradeable. It's a little pricey for some at $90, but I find it to be a good value.

For about $50 shipped you dan get an IPV5. It uses a SX330-200 Yihi chip, does just about anything you would want. 200 watts, TC, user TCR, Firmware upgradeable. I think for the money it's one of the best bangs for the buck out atm.

Here's a link to a search for the best prices on it.

Cheers,
Steve

I agree with this recommendation for a high performance and affordable regulated APV, it is a bit taller and wider than most other recent mods ,but if you come from a mech then this is maybe your thing unless you have some very specific preferences about form-factor, size, shape or aesthetic

The two cons with the IPV5 is that it does not have a USB charging option and software upgrades are not frequent.

I want a small mod....... At this point the only way I would go with s battery sized mod.. Is if it had 1 battery and a juice tank.

What I want Capable of running 30watts or less for at least 16hours on the clock before battery change. No taller, with atty, than 18500 tube mech running a 2.5ml kayfun tank. Not counting DT. No wider than two 26650 batteries side by side. Unless the mod is a squonker it will run Tank atties. I don't like dripping. My dripper atties are all Bonttom Feed and get used as such.
