Color me dazed and confused with all the choices on box mods. The more I look the less certain I am on what I want to buy. I have a few mods but was using a Smok Sid for a year and a half as my regular daily vape ( my others aren't convenient to carry around) with nautilus tanks. I have a mechanical and that is the only thing I can use to fire my rda's with sub-ohm coils but don't use them much. I bought a second hand Russian (I think it is a clone) but haven't used it yet. I want to get an Atlantis and possibly try some other rebuildable tanks but not until I buy a regulated mod that does sub-ohm. I bought a Tessla to replace the SID as the battery cap threads were really getting bad as well as the firing button was getting weak. The Tessla surprised me at just over $30 shipped on Ebay, it performs just as well as the SID and I like some aspects of it better at half the price. I kept thinking I wanted a Provari 3 but I am basically off that idea now and just want to buy a good box mod that isn't too huge and awkward but I get that the ones that use dual 18650's would go a lot longer before a batter swap and have a lot more amperage if it does in fact boost that when in series. I have cognitive issues due to a disease so now days it has become much harder to decide what I want to go for and there are more and more choices. I had thought that the Sigelei 150W was the one to go for but now I am not so sure with some of the newer devices getting a lot of attention and apparently the DNA200 being out soon along with all kinds of new ones being introduced all the time. I am not going to make a decision right away but curious what some others think. I really don't think I will be using the huge amounts of power like 100W or 150W but the capability leaves it open in the future if I did need it.

I heard Joe say Saturday night that most don't care about Temp control and while I get the theory, I wonder how valuable that is other than making sure it doesn't spiral out of control on battery temperature? And I guess I don't understand it well enough because I guess if you know the range you want it to stay in that it can have an effect on keeping the vape like you prefer, if I understood that right? So, advice on box mods is appreciated. That SXMINI M Class looks like a nice size and has some good reviews but wow, pricey at $200, especially when some are running the Sigelei at about $63 shipped. I know the SXMINI has some additional features and is much smaller which is nice but also only uses one 18650. And what about the Kanger subbox mini? That is kind of intriguing, I think that might have been what Joe was using Saturday night on the show and raving about but not sure?? So I am interested in thoughts on the most solid choice (not breaking the bank mind you) for a box mod to get started wtih.

Sigs are rock solid, they will put your SID to shame without rattlesnake modulation.

First off let me preface this with, I don't own a sigelei. I do own a pair of Sx minis, and a pioneer 4u using the same board as the sigelei and I have used one. the sigelei 150w is a damn nice mod for 63$. I think its so inexpensive because a new version is set to be released at the end of July for probably twice that. The sxmini offers a few additional features that quite frankly have me spoiled. I say that as I'm using a mech at the moment (sue me).
You sort of hinted around at your own answer though. and yes there are a ton of options out there, next month there will be a ton more.
What I would advise is write down your list of 'must have features' and your list of 'would be Nice to have' and go from there.
The kind of buyer I am, if I were looking for my first jump into a box, I would look at the sigelei, its a proven performer, a nice mod, a dependable yihi chip, and lot of power. If I knew I wanted temp control, the sxmimi m class for the same reasons plus firing modes and user upgradeable. plus there are zero known issues with either.
Personally I will be getting a dna200 since I'm a fan of the temp control and a total tech nerd, however with evolv's history on the DNA40 I would tell anyone to wait and see how it goes first
Other good options exist but I'm sticking with what you mentioned.
Edit: as a closet p3 owner I will say its the most expensive prettiest fishing weight in ever bought.

I'm a Sig fan boy for sure, been using the v1 100 for like 8 months now without a complaint...would jump on a 150 but I rarely top 60 watts and I haven't been able to break the 100 despite several drops.

Temp limiting is interesting due to the ability to ramp up to full power faster, but my take is that it's still an imperfect science. I'll wait to see how that goes and maybe jump in a few months down the toad.

Temp limiting is all about not getting your coil too hot and burning wick, BTW, not about protecting battery temps.

Good you're off the Provari track - great quality mods but not compatible with modern technology. Can't miss with a Sig, or if you think temp limits are in your future, an IPV4.

My current favorite is the P4Y IPV3 Li. It's 165w out of the box (I've already upgraded mine to 200w). Does temperature control, built as solid as a tank, 2 18650s in series, and can be had for as little as 79.99 US.

I would vote for the Sigelei 150 as well.

But if you are willing to wait a few months until vapers at large have been using the P4Y IPV3 for a month or two as their daily driver and they are not catching fire or dropping dead for no reason, you might want to consider that,

And by then, prices would have gone down some.

Yes the sigelei is the king in my book but there just might be a new king the dna200 we will all find out soon enough

Funny that a couple of you mentioned the IPV4, I was just looking at them from the vendor that I bought the Tesslas from, he has
IpvFour 100Watt Silver Ipv4x in stock for just $10 more at $73.99 free shipping. So, then it becomes is the IPV4 potentially better than the Sig and do I just wait a bit to see what all comes out in the next couple of months anyway and how people like the IPV4.

It's all good advice. Everybody is going to have their favorites. Mods are like any tech...the second you go out and buy the fastest, coolest new gadget, the v2 is out 2 weeks later and you are behind the times. If you don't need the latest and greatest (and especially if $ is a huge consideration), go with something tried and true. Like f1r3b1rd said, make yourself a list of "must haves" and "would be nice to haves" and just make a choice. You wouldn't regret buying a Sig. I would be willing to bet that you wouldn't regret buying a SX Mini. It's an investment. Believe me, I've bought at least 4 or 5 pieces of crap mods that I wish I could have the money back for and just by an SX Mini..lol So many ways to vape...so many people have so many different preferences...you just kinda have to jump in. Nothing is going to be absolutely perfect and if you wait to find that ONE, you'll never feel comfortable pulling the trigger..LOL

A Sigelei 150w is a reliable device that will run whatever you want however you want for a reasonable price. You could get one to cover all your bases for now then sit back and take your time sorting through everything else out and seeing how the new stuff that's coming out stacks up. Just a thought.
