Russian dry hits.

I have a Russian that I can't seem to get tuned with higher VG (thicker) juices. Every once in a while I get dry hits. If I open the top cap an air bubble rises and then it works fine again. I have tried everything to get this. I'm using 30 Ga kanthal in a 1.3 ohm coil wicked with organic cotton @ 7 watts. I have tried more cotton. Less cotton. More airflow Less airflow. Raising and lowering the coil above the air hole on the deck. I don't get it. It works perfect with 50/50 PG/VG juices. Any ideas? I also changed all my seals.

In my experience, I have found that Russians and their variants struggle with high VG. I, too, have experienced the same dry hits and no matter what I tried with various amounts of cotton, I never could get them to wick properly. I now just use the high VG in a dripper. The most viscous that I'm using in a tank is a 60/40 VG/PG with great results. I would be curious to know the experiences of others as well.

Any time your get a dry hit with a Russian, hold your finger over the venting hole next to the adjustment screw on the side while you suck on it a couple of times till you see the bubble. No need to open it up cause then you need to build up the pressure again.I run 30/70-20/80 pg/vg with a 29 ga vertical coil and degummed hemp fiber in all my Russians and Taifuns.

Good Luck and hope this helps!!

I often cover up the hole and suck to help prime the wick but it's kind of a PIA so I just use less viscous liquids.
