Samsung 25R's, Top White Ring Gone

Just wanted to ask a question about my Samsung 25 R 18650 batteries. I have had them for about 6 months now, all 12 of them. Been using them in a mech box mod, and I noticed that the top of the batteries & the white rings have all been worn away, mainly because it was a snug fit inside the box mod. About a week ago, I was taking one out, and the battery started to vent on me, I'm guessing part of the exposed top touched a part of the tray it was not supposed to without protection. I took the battery out, let it cool off, then disposed of it, I just did not trust it anymore.

Now I use both tube mechs, and box mechs, but I have not used any of the other Samsungs that have the top exposed, I just bought 12 of the LG HE4's, to see how they work out. I've read good things on them so I'm gonna try them out. My question is, should I just toss out the other Samsungs that have the top of the battery's metal exposed? It's all on the positive side. I just bought a new triple parallel 18650 box mod, but the guy warranty's his work for over a year, and leaves plenty of room inside to work on them if need be.

When the battery vented it was because it was hard shorted. As you removed it, both the centre positive and another part of the top seam (negative) must have touched the battery contact at the same time.

Definitely either rewrap them or recycle them. Damage around the topcap, near to the positive is the worst kind.

+1. As you saw this is really bad and it makes it very easy to hard short the battery which it only takes a very quick one to vent on most batteries.

You can rewrap it to make sure this is well insulated but make sure it's done well. If you can't get it solidly wrapped then replace the batteries, and definitely don't use them in the meantime.

I'm really grateful for the help guys, I ordered some of the little covers for the tops of the batteries, and I went ahead and ordered the same coloring of the pvs wrap that each of my batteries are, so they should be here in 2-3 days. I just recieved my order of the LG HE4's I ordered, 12 of them, so I'm in great shape for now, plus I still have some undamaged 18650's also. It seems very simple to rewrap, so I appreciate you giving me the link. Hope everyone has a great week, & now, it's time to get back to vaping...lol Take care all!
