Scientists at the University of York say they’ve identified the missing genes and enzyme behind nicotine production in tobacco plants, and recreated the process in the lab and in living plants. The discovery could help reduce nicotine contamination in tobacco-based biotech products and enable new ways to produce medicines and vaccines. [york.ac.uk]
