I was out walking our doggies with my Mini in my front pocket. The dogs bolted after a cat knocking me to the ground. The Mini still worked when I had a chance to check it.

Then a day or so later the screen started to scramble the display, but still fired. I became concerned, so I stopped using it for a few months. I charged up a 18650 battery and it worked nicely for a while.
It would shut it self off which was annoying and the scrambled screen started again too. I'm back to using my aging ego batteries which is sad as I miss the Mini.
My 18650 batteries are over a year and a half old.
The fall might be unrelated as e-liquid could have crept into the board, or not.

I'm lost as how to troubleshoot the device. Any help would be most appreciated as money is real tight for me right now otherwise I would just buy a different device.

The first step of troubleshooting is usually a visual inspection. I would attempt to take it apart and visually check all the components and connections. Good luck.

I found what I believe is my problem with my Sigelei 30w Mini. I was watching a Rip Tripper video about the Sigelei 150 and he was pulling off the silicone cover while talking about a problem he had with a different mod shorting out because e-liquid got trapped between the mod and cover, which later seeped into the mod and shorting it out.
I had noticed the same thing, but never thought that e-liquid would work it self into the mod, otherwise I would have ditched the cover. When sliding off the cover to change the battery I would wipe off the mod with vaper towels and the inside of the cover. It just took one leak.

I wonder if it's worth fixing. Maybe a TC board would fit in place of the shorted board.

Expose the internals and rinse everything with rubbing alcohol. Let it dry, install battery and see what it does. Last ditch effort kinda thing ya know? Good luck.
