Small mod for a long night out on the town/daily

So, I'm still new to vaping, I got a Joyetech eGo AIO a couple weeks ago and managed to stop smoking yuss!

I've also spent the last couple weeks totally immersed in the world of vaping online ha, it's kinda cool to have a new 'hobby' to keep things interesting while quitting.

I'm looking for a new mod now - I've read and watched a million reviews online, and whittled my list down to a few.. Now I want something very small, something I can take out on a massive night out and have the battery life to last. I don't mind refilling tanks, as I have been carrying a little dripper bottle around with me to refill on the go. Also will be my all day use too, but I can charge and refill at work.

ELeaf Pico vs eGrip 2 vs Cuboid Mini

ELeaf Pico
- good size, but tank sticking up, great battery life and can carry an extra, small tank (2ml)

eGrip 2 - ok battery (is 2100mah enough for a big night?), ok tank (3.5ml)

Cuboid Mini - good battery life (2400mah) and tank size (5ml), slightly larger than the eGrip 2

I'm just thinking an all in one unit would be more suitable for me on the go, and I like the eGrip 2 shape and size over the cuboid mini.. I can see myself getting either of those, leaning towards the eGrip 2, then in a month or so getting a Pico, cos I'm just a hoarder like that..

Thoughts, or any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I don't have any of those (yet), but I'm hearing great things about the eGrip 2 and the Cuboid Mini. I think either of them would serve you well. I would "personally" go for the eGrip 2, I just really like the AIO form factor, and the display is downright sexy. :)

My joyetech chip mods are all fantastic, so I don't think you can go wrong with any mod using the chip set ... HTH!

What wattage do you vape at?

Look at the Sigelei 213. Dual battery, one of the smallest and lightest duel battery mods, goes up to 213, and can vape anything. You can have that for months no matter what tank, rda you buy in the future.

Well the eGo AIO is 15-28W, 0.6ohm and I'm a MTL. Does that help? Don't need massive clouds, just satisfaction..

What I meant, what is the wattage that YOU normally vape at, not the capabilities of the mod you are using?

My SMY 60 goes to 60 watts (Duhh :D) but I normally vape between 19 and 28 watts depending on the E-Liquid I am enjoying at the moment.

I'm just a beginner so have only ever vaped with the eGo AIO.. so wouldn't have a clue ha, it has no adjustable settings..

Ok, I looked into the specs of the mod you are using.

Whiskeys recommendation of the Pico mod is a good one.

This is my suggestion....

https://www.fasttech.com/product/2387700-authentic-simeiyue-smy-60-tc-mini-temperature

Small enough that it can share my shirt pocket with my cell phone.

Very easy to read display that includes time and date which I find very useful

Internal battery charger and also operates as a pass-through device.

Very easy to swap out batteries.

Mine has been through HELL including a drop from about 4 feet up into my gravel driveway and then it bounced into a puddle of muddy water.

I use it paired with a Kanger Subtank Mini using the RBA head (you can also order extra RBA heads so you can have a spare ready to swap out).

I build my own coils for the RBA head for less than 1 cent. If I dry burn the head every 2 to 3 tanks and install a new wick at the same time, the coils will normally last me about 60 days.

The RBA decks are very easy to build on.

I would suggest getting the Silver one (bare brushed metal) with the Black Carbon Fiber as I have heard others say that the painted ones will have the paint wear off.

IMHO, this will serve you well and you can grow with it!

The device itself................$44

About $30 for the tank and it comes with one RBA head.

Extra RBA heads about $7

24 AWG Kanthal about $5 for a 100' spool which you may be able to pass down to your children.

Big Ass bag of Japanese Organic Cotton make up pads for wicks $5 from Amazon. These can be passed down to your great, great grandchildren..

Little screwdriver $2

Nail to wrap your coils around......................Ask a friend

Nail clipper to cut wire..............Check, you have one somewhere!

Batteries and Charger you already know..

I just got a new mod to review that just might fit the bill for a beginner. Take a look at the Smoant Knight V1 Starter Kit. It seems to be a pretty well built and is small but solid, and the Talon tank that comes with it can use the Kanger SSOCC coils, which are very prevalent and relatively inexpensive. It does temperature control with nickel, titanium, and stainless 316L. It does NOT do manual TCR, so you are stuck with it's limitations, but it seems to be performing very well for a beginner mod. It will also take any standard 22mm tank too, so you can switch to any tank you want if the Talon doesn't meet your needs.

101Vape has the starter kit in black (white is sold out right now), for $52. You will need to add juice, a battery and a charger, but otherwise it comes with everything to get started in the box. Here is the link to check it out ... Smoant Kit at 101Vape

I'll have the full review on it written in a couple weeks I think (have to finish a couple before i can start on it). I wish stuff like this were around when I was a beginner looking for a kit!

I know @UncleRJ has had great luck with his SMY 60 TC Mini, but I was not nearly as happy with mine. I had to have the screen replaced (under warranty), and it took several months to get it back from the "repair center" in Ohio.

A friend of mine got the Pico today, and now I have Pico envy - that thing is tiny! I have several of the original egrips, which I quite liked (but only with the RBA deck). I don't like to out without something with replaceable batteries, though - especially if I'm going to be able to vape - so I used to take at least two egrips with me just in case one failed (or I ran the battery down).

You want a small mod with a killer internal battery? Check out the Coolfire IV TC100. Great little mod with a great board that gets no respect. I love mine. I get almost all day of chain vaping it with a Crown at 75W and 500f. You run an STM or a smaller wattage tank on it and you're good to go. Nice stealthy setup. Plus it has 2 amp charging so you can go from 0 - 100% in 90 minutes.

The IPV D3 is on sale here for $26 with coupon code "ILOVEYOU". Seems like a heck of a price for that mod. You would have to get a separate tank. I'm an RTA guy so someone else would probably be better at recommending a tank that takes pre-built heads. I hear the Crown tank is good and that same place use to run good deals on that as well.

Cheers,
Steve

PS The main negative iirc for that mod was no support for SS in TC. If you don't use SS in TC then it's not a con. I believe it's so affordable because a new model is about to be released that does offer support SS in TC (IPV D3S).

Dev,

I so indeed remember our chat about the SMY60 which is why I reccomended the silver/burshed metal finish as if I recall, you had indicated that the black finish was wearing off of your mod.

Still sorry to hear about your issues with it but IMHO still worth considering.

If you get a mod that needs batteries, I would highly recommend the LG HG2 (3000mah 20A) or LG HE4 (2500mah 20A) or Samsung 25r (2500mah 20A). These are all good batteries and should easily last a full day or more between charges with your current vaping needs. I recommend getting 2, so that you have one to use while the other is charging.

I would also look at either the Nitecore or Efest chargers, fairly inexpensive and proven reliability. Try NOT to charge batteries in the mod unless you have no other choice, it is always better to use a charger. The reduces wear on the USB port, which if it breaks will leave you without any way to charge the battery if you don't have a charger.

Most importantly though, make sure to get your batteries from a good and reliable source, this is one place you don't want to go cheap, with all the counterfeit batteries on the market, the last thing you want is one that vents (explodes) while you are using it.

HTH!

Yeah, mine had the flaking paint issues and a screen failure. Getting it fixed should have been easy, since the "service center" is only a couple states away. It still took over 3 months to get it back.

I'm not saying it isn't a good mod, or that your opinion is wrong, just that I had a completely different experience with mine than you did with yours. :D

To further complicate things, the next SMY mod I got was the Touchbox, and it too is defective and in for repairs, I'm waiting to see just how long it takes this time ... I've lost all faith in the quality control of SMY's products, and their customer service is even worse, they told me to write my review on the broken mod!!!

Take a look at the Aspire Plato, it's my "out and about" mod, very compact and ligth, nice big tank (5ml) and if you use a 3000mah bat (30q for example) it last pretty long. Also not expensive, so if lost/damaged when things get wild it's not that terrible

I have to disagree with you about the plato. For a MTL vaper with some experience, it may not be horrible, but for a new vaper, definitely NOT recommended. It is an overly complex mod with some issues, which you can see here PLATO REVIEW.

I have to respectably disagree with this review, the only thing that is slightly iffy is the coil changing: while it is very easy to do, you have to drain the tank to switch coil, it's the only drawback I have found.
It is very simple to operate, with a simple menu.
Opposed to what the reviews says, you don't have to go through the entire startup sequence everytime you fit a new battery, just click once to select"same coil" and that it.
Also opposed to what the review says: All the triton mini coils fit so there are TC coils for it. Even the VVTF RBA fits so there is a (even though it's 3th party) RBA available.
Another thing wrongly stated in thte review: The sub-ohm coils are also alot cheaper, just a tad higher than other coils: $14 for 5.

I have never experienced any issues with leaking, gurggling or troubles changing the coil or anything else. It's a very simple device to use, with alot of coils options for a decent price, and very easy to carry around due to its weigth and size.

Hey @drugarth, I appreciate the disagreement and the feedback, everyone has different experiences and opinions. I would ask you to keep a few things in mind though.

Reviews are a snapshot in time. At the time the review was written, there was no firmware update available and with the original firmware there was no option to select "same coil". That came in the first firmware update, which was released just before the review was published. The review was edited to include information on the firmware update, and that is also discussed in depth.

As for coil compatibility, there was no information available at the time that the Triton Mini coils would work in the Plato, and Aspire has NEVER released an RBA that will fit the device. If you are a new vaper, and you are relying on what the manufacturer says about their product, then you will never know that other options exist. Searching through all of Aspire's available information, even today, there is nothing there that says you can use them in the Plato, and certainly no information on 3rd party alternatives. I don't have any Triton Mini coils or an aftermarket RBA, but if someone wants to donate them, I will be happy to do an update to the review.

Also, at the time the review was written, there was ONLY a single source that I could find for the replacement sub ohm coils, and they were listed at almost $5 each. Since then, it appears that the coils have been made more available and can be readily found.

I'm glad you have not had any leaking/gurgling issues with yours, perhaps the one I reviewed was defective. I have spoken to a couple of other folks that have also had leaking problems with their Plato's, and there are a few complaints about this on the web too. To be fair though, it does not appear to be a widespread problem, certainly nowhere near as bad as the nebox, but again, when the review was written there was very little information available.

I don't want to derail the OP's thread, so if you would like to discuss further, could we do it by PM? I'm happy for any feedback or criticism that can help improve my reviews.

Thanks for the replies!

Picking up a eGrip 2 today, will use that for a bit, then pass it on to the missus.

Want to pick up a Pico too, just cos I like the look of them, will just use it in the car, on errands etc.

Then make a decision on something decent later on, I like the look of that Sigelei 213..

Awesome, glad to hear that you like it. Have you had any issues at all with it? What is the battery life like, is it sufficient to get you through a "massive night out"?

I have an iStick TC40w that last for about a day with the use I give it. Depending on your tank will depend on the run time. Compact enough but regulated and thermal protection.

If the tank on the pico sticks up too much maybe something like the tesla 100w stealth? Although it uses an internal lipo battery, not a replaceable like the pico. It can be paired with other rta's instead of being limited to one that's completely built in like the aspire plato or istick nano.
https://www.elementvape.com/tesla-stealth-100w-box-mod

Or maybe a reuleaux rx75, the 510 is somewhat shorter than the top of the unit.
http://vapenw.com/rx75w-by-wismec

There may be better places to buy them, these were just the first links that basically popped up on a search. I've never dealt with either retailer. Given the price and all the issues I've seen on the sigelei 213 I don't think it would be the best choice.

As others mentioned for an out and about vape something lower budget may be preferable in the event it gets damaged, lost or stolen.

I've seen the tiny AIO go for as little as $12.99. For a beginner, I'd get two (one for backup) just for going out and about the town. It lasts forever on a single charge and I haven't had any trouble whatsoever with leaking or anything else. You do need to take some juice with you for refilling, which takes about 8 seconds. :) Buying coils isn't too big an issue since they seem to last a very long time.

I've got a Sigelei Spark 90 W TC mod that I love for it's very small size. I call it a cross between a tube and box mod.
The way it feels in the hand could not be more perfect. With the Serpent mini RBA it's perfect.

I find the Pico unwieldy to hold onto, maybe because it's so wide for being so short? But the Serpent Mini tank is perfect for any mod. Check it out, comes in silver or black and is a really small RBA that works very well with no issues.

I have only put it in to see if it fits and it does. I have not build on it yet as it's tiiiiiny and I have not found the courage yet, it's more a 'last resort' item for me.
The v2 version seems a lot easier to build, but don't have that one, so can't comment if it will fit the Plato.

I paired my Pico with a Serpent Mini. It's an awesome setup which allows me to vape at 20w which therefore makes a single 3000mah 18650 last for 2 days. And that's mostly chain-vaping in bars at night.
