Dear MFS Customer,

Our records indicate that you have purchased one or more Sony VTC 18650-size batteries from MyFreedomSmokes. This letter is to inform you of an important advisory from Sony Electronics, the manufacturer of the VTC4 and VTC5 batteries, regarding the use of these products in vaping devices.

Sony has stated that the VTC battery is not intended for use in any vaping/electronic cigarette device, and that the use of their batteries in such devices presents a danger of fire or explosion.

Sony has not indicated that the VTC batteries are faulty in any way, nor have they issued any recall on VTC batteries, however they have made clear that they are in no way responsible for improper use of their batteries in unapproved devices such as vaping box mods and mechanical mods.

Following our receipt of this letter, MyFreedomSmokes has decided to stop selling Sony VTC4 and VTC5 18650-size batteries. We also wish to inform you, as the owner of one or more VTC batteries, that you are solely responsible for how you choose to use your VTC battery or batteries. As a responsible and well-informed vaper, you should be aware of the risks associated with the use of high-amperage batteries in any application, including vaping. It's just a bunch of legal jibberjabber, They're just doing the same thing Sony is, legally cutting off responsibility. Why would they promote returning it if they can just cut that bit of legal ramifications?

It's kind of ironic . I got home from work tonight, turned on the news and there was a video of some guy at a convenience store here in the Boston area and his e cig blew up in his pocket. Right after that I checked my emails and the first one I opened was that announcement from MFS

Then maybe the vape industry as a WHOLE should stop recommending the use of any Sony batteries for vaping.

I don't see LG or Samsung having a hissy. Fuck Sony, I'll not recommend them again.

Was he using a VTC4? Was he using a mech that was idiotically placed in his pocket while continuously firing at an amperage higher than 30? Lots of questions for whether or not that's ironic.

I hear ya. I've just had a couple battles with my friends girlfriends trying to convince them of the safety. They all are well... WELL below any kind of safety concerns (.5Ω coils on 20 amp cells in regulated mods) and the media scare bugs me. Gain some knowledge and protect yourself. I will say the media does one good thing in scaring people is that hopefully they educate themselves, but those who don't care to take the 30-60mins to understand the basic safety should shut the fuck up. Anyways luckily as soon as I started spitting physics my friend girlfriends (very intelligent people) understood and accepted that they were fine. Still didn't agree with them putting potentially harmful things into themselves but agreed it was better than smoking or drinking, so they backed off. A man has to have their vices.

I hear you too! It's quite a challenge for new vapors diving into sub-ohming. I've gotten several of my co-workers to quit the cigs and they've taking up vaping. I try to explain the basics of ohm's law and they look at me like I'm speaking Italian or something . (Unlike your friend's girlfriends they are not the brightest bulbs in the room).
