Spanish archaeologists document more than 30 shipwrecks in the Bay of Gibraltar

A three-year project has identified 151 archaeological sites in the bay, including 134 shipwrecks, with wrecks ranging from a fifth-century BC Punic vessel to Roman, medieval and early modern ships. Researchers are using the finds to study centuries of maritime history and are urging protection for the sites, which face threats from development and dredging. [theguardian.com]
