Thanks for the reply and info.
I too have heard bad things about the Ares chip. When I was looking to buy one from The Vapourist, and sent an email to confirm they were in fact in stock, I got a stern warning in the reply that the Ares chip version had no warranty and is subject to damage from e-juice.
I can confirm that the SXK DNA60 version has a rubber gasket seal all around under the plate where the display and buttons are located. I had removed this cover to put the end of a ribbon for the battery under the edge, since getting the battery out was a headache previously, and now it very easy to just pull the ribbon.
So far the ribbon is holding and no adverse effects to the board.
The price delta is about $55 between the Ares chip and the DNA60, which is about retail for the DNA60 board alone.
Some folks asked about the DNA75 being used in a BB, and the main concern is size, the DNA75 board is about 30% larger than the DNA60 board, and as such will not fit in this form factor without a major redesign.
I have also seen specs that the DNA60 is more efficient by about 12% than the DNA75 in terms of battery usage and power conversion to the atty connection, so I do not see much reason to 'upgrade' that myself.
Also, with something like a SS316L 0.25 Ohm build at 50w, the boro tank gets really warm/hot as do the G10/fiberglass doors, so running higher/hotter, I'd worry about melting the derlin boro tank or causing some other failure. When the mod is hot to hold in the hand, for me this is a concern.
To me, the beauty of the BB is mostly the form factor, and not for blowing massive clouds. There are plenty of devices that can do that, but for those that like a cooler temp vape than a 300w cloud-chucker, and/or want something that feels and looks kinda like an iPhone and is easy to fit in a shirt pocket, or the inside breast pocket of your suit-jacket and looks sleek and refined, the BB is really nice for any of that.
I'm currently running the Nic River smooth nic salts in it right now, with the Exocet, where I managed to get a nice vertical coil build in there with 26g Kanthal @1.15 Ohm, and at 19w, it is a nice, warm, moist and flavorful vape, also with great battery life...
@Le Furet - If you find out anything more from your friend from SXK about the Ares chip, and/or the release date of the next production run, please let me know.
I'd love to get an authentic BB, but I am tapped out right now and another SXK clone is closer to being within my grasp...
Sorry to all Bonkers for the lengthy digression into the Billet Box...please accept my tangential ramblings...
Thank you
