Maybe you can upgrade him to a refillable pod system with replaceable coil heads, like the Aspire Breeze 2. Pretty small, rechargable, hard to break (metal body, plastic tank holds 3ml) and both direct-lung (0.6 ohm) and mouth-to-lung (1.0 and 1.2 ohm) coils are made for it
Might check out the breeze myself. I hear good things

Five guys has the best fries ever. Never had a burger from them though. My wife buys White Castle by the case. I called her Kumar a while back. For those that know of Harold and Kumar.

KUMAR!!! Yes. For a while, when I was younger and the White Castle became available at the grocery store, I too was buying them in the large box. I like them better than the Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage sandwiches...at the time..

Yeah, I have been following along with lots of stories on /ecr reddit of folks saying that they get gurgling, dry hits, or burnt coils at the start. Most of it seems like user error from newbies who are not first priming the coil heads, and letting them soak in the tank before hitting the new coil when it's first installed, or over-priming the tank and getting flooding and not knowing how to fix (wrap the air hole with paper towel and blow OUT until there is no more turbulence/gurgling) which seems like vaping 101 to me with any pre-made coil-head system, but I guess they never bothered to look for that info...

I also like the new pod system from Eleaf, the iCard I think it's called, mainly because the mouthpiece cap fits neatly on the bottom, like the cap for a pen, and this makes my OCD happy. only holds 2ml, whereas the Breeze 2 holds 3ml, but the cap on the Breeze 2 has no 'home' and will just get lost over time...

Why do you think a 0.5 ohm coil is appropriate for someone who wants something that "hits about as lamely as the clearomizer"? Those clearos are what, 1.5 ohms? 1.8?
Perhaps I need to get 15ga wire to build his coils. I use 26 ga, and that's all I have in stock.

For the kind of resistance you're looking at, you'll have to try either 30 or 31/32 gauge wire.
I' pretty sure you already know this, but the higher the number, the thinner the wire and as such, the higher the resistance. So for a carto like resistance of let's say 1.6 ohms, 28 gauge will take 9 wraps with a 2.5 mm ID, and 6 wraps of 30 gauge wire. The 30 gauge wire will have less wire mass thus heat up a bit faster and drain the battery slower.

I didn't even know that was a thing. I'll definitely try that next time I'm near one.

I've never seen it on the "menu" either, but I'm certainly going to ask the next time I'm there.....:vino:

He does not want to spend $65 + shipping for those.
That's understandable but $65 for an atty you're going to use several years beats the hell out of $65 for a carton of cigarettes you'll blow in a week or less (at least I did)

I'm sure that "15ga" must be a typo.

30 gauge and thinner is a pain (fragile) to wick.

28ga will work for tootle-puffing builds. 8 wraps around a 2mm (5/64") mandrel will get you something like 1.3 ohms.

@Lady Sarah http://www.discountvapers.com/ has a pile of the older clearomizer stuff. I still visit the site periodically when I want to trip down Ancient History Lane ;-)

Fast shipping, good CS, decent prices - can't ask for a lot more.
I looked at posts here on VU regarding the Aspire Revvo atty. It looks like it's worth a shot, but he'll be the one buying it. That is, if he is willing.

Well, yes and no - I've been doing fine with it, (I have 26 SS, but not 28 - nor 28 Kanthal, so..) - on a regulated mod like a DNA or a YiHi (and even the gbox) - I can drop-back-10 and punt - with 30awg SS316L

I absolutely do not ever, NEVER want to suffer below 28 - and 26 is safer - EVER on a mech.. Series or not. (the horrors.. the horrors..)

The Revvo got a couple horrible reviews. I honestly am lost now.

Is yer hubby a tootle-puffer,or a clouds-bro? Is he incapable of winding a coil, or inserting a coilhead?

I seem to have lost my viewpoint..

I miss NJ diners, so maybe we're "even" lol.
I've got In 'N Out all over, and it's not bad...but I hate their fries, and I really like Five Guys - that's a pretty good burger.

IIRC White Castle was the one famous for that, and a reason their burgers were known as 'sliders' here in NJ.

Post-college bar hopping and clubbing, often a choice put up by someone in the group, either to go to a diner for some bacon, egg, and cheese on a kaiser roll sandwiches and some gravy cheese fries and a chocolate shake, or a 12-pack of White Castle burgers (they are tiny, like 2"x2" square) and whatever else they added, in order to help fend off the expected morning hangover...

In NJ many White Castle locations were open until 2am or later...back in those days. I have not eaten White Castle in like 25 yrs, and will likely avoid it in the future unless there is no other choice at the time. Not that they are 'bad' per se, but there are much better options nowadays.

I too wish there was In-and-Out Burger here on the East Coast USA. A few years ago we got 'Smashburger' and 'Five Guys Burgers and Fries' showing up all around, but I never tried either.

Tootle, all the way. He has seen me wrap a coil, but has no interest in doing it himself. He sees me twist cotton really tight, and push it through a coil, and he wants no part of that.

Well, I guess the guys can count to 23, if they play pocket pool.

I understand the nipples thing, but there is something wrong with you (like your in a porn vid or something) if you nipples stick out as long as fingers

8 wraps of 26g Kanthal on 2.5mm ID will get you a 1.0 Ohm or thereabouts build, and will need ~23w to get some decent vapor @ a heat flux of 200 and such a coil should ramp pretty quick due to the low mass and having a heat capacity ~37.

Similarly with SS316L, you will need 16 wraps on 2.5mm to get~1.0 Ohm, and for a heat flux of 200, you will need ~44w and will have a slower ramp time due to the heat capacity being ~88.

You can play with more options on Steam Engine here: http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.html

I use 26g SS316L. It's all I use. 12 wraps gave me 0.5 ohms. I may need to see if he can buy staple coils with a 2 - 2.5 ohm resistance. He won't wrap his own, and he doesn't want me wrapping them for him, since mine hit too hard for him.

If you can get some Kanthal, which has approx. double the resistance of SS316L per length, it will hit softer than SS316L at the same power because of the higher resistance, and not be so harsh.

Since you say your hubby is a tootle puffer, the revvo probably wont work. It's a direct lung tank, and the resistance on the coils is about 0.13 to 0.15 I believe. Maybe look at the Innokin Zenith tank,it's a mtl tank that uses premade coils that have a higher resistance. Or an Aspire Nautilus mini.

Yeah, but at 23 watts, it's is still likely to hit harder than a guy who's looking for a clearo-like vape wants.

Kanger Subtank mini V2.
Use RBA with 3mm id 5/6 wrap of 26ga SS316l. Very nice vape at 16 watts.
I keep 6 RBA's Wired and wicked ready to go. As simple as swapping out a coil.
Sarah could just prep his RBA's once every few weeks.

SS irritates my throat

might be worth trying another metal, just to rule out intolerance to SS?

He doesn't want her wrapping his coils. Doesn't want to wrap his own coils. Doesn't want a 3ml carto. But wants more than 1.6ml. like trying to please a baby who can't tell you what they want.so any rebuildable is about apparently. Man I glad my wife just stopped vaping instead of a harder endless search.

100 feet of 28 G kanthal will likely cost less than one pack of coil heads

Word!

I got a bundle of 22g-36g (even gauges only) which was 8x 50ft spools of SS316L in each gauge from Amazon, 'master of clouds' brand, for $14 with free Amazon Prime shipping.

That vendors and others had similar bundles of Nichrome N80 and Kanthal KA1.

You can also find genuine Temco brand on Amazon, in single spools of 50ft for ~$5 and 100ft for ~$8 for various sellers.

Also, one can buy direct from Temco and cut out the middle-man, prices were like $3.75 for 50ft, but then you will pay whatever they charge for shipping...

I've been looking to pick up a few extra Kanger RBA heads, which ones (version) do you have?

Do you recall where you bought them?

FT has 3-4 different ones that are not authentic, and reviews are mixed, so I've held back on them and still looking...
