SS316L Twisted Issues

So I thought i'd try out a twisted coil, so I took my Master of Clouds 26ga SS316L wire, put one end in the drill, held the other with nn pliers and twisted until it snapped. It was impossible to wrap because it was way too stiff. I tried wrapping using my 3.5mm coil jig, and it wanted no part of it.

WTF am I doing wrong?

That makes sense. I watched some builders on YouTube and thought I followed their process, but I guess not. Maybe I thought they were using SS when they were using kanthal? I'll try to back off and see what happens.

With all that, is twisted worth it? Does it provide better flavor than regular just round SS?

I think so, loosen up the twists and play around with it, you'll find your sweet spot.

I've twisted both kanthal and SS316 - ribbon and round. It works ok - put some tension on it once in awhile before twisting more.

Thing is, they are definitely springy and do NOT want to wrap the ID you want, nor hold in a nice way: they want to uncoil somewhat.

Now, last night I wrapped a 2Ω .5mm kanthal ribbon and vaped it all night. I was NOT excited - it was a pain and didn't want to play.. Today I layered 2 lengths of .7mm, clamped each end with hemo's and, pulled tight, hit them with the butane torch. That definitely helped. It helped enough that I wrapped the coil around my brass rod, left the hemo's to dangle and repeated the heating.. You could see the legs "sag" straight.

Mounting that coil was vastly easier than the night before - flavor is almost where I want it. "Now I know". (of course, I still hate trying to refill the silly torch, but it was vastly better than screwing with a lighter)

Not applying enough tension to the wire when wrapping. Pull harder.

Use a coiller like The Artistic wire Coil Gizmo.. I use a homemade version , and hang a weight of the free end of the wire. Make perfect no pinch contact coil or perfectly spaced coils.
