Aside from the six main feature films from George Lucas, the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars was the only material to make the cut when Disney and Lucasfilm decided to officially decree what was considered canon, and confirmed that the Expanded Universe was not included. As a big fan of that show, it was a huge relief to know that those episodes and the many great stories they told were all locked in as part of Star Wars mythology and could reverberate in the future. Still, it was clear the focus moving forward would no longer be on The Clone Wars era, as the show itself was cancelled prematurely. While Episode VII will obviously take place many years after the original trilogy, much of the new canon material we’ve gotten in the lead-up is taking place in an era that hasn’t been explored all that much – the 20 years in-between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. This goes for the animated series Star Wars Rebels, the multiple new comic books so far, and the four canon Star Wars novels released in the past year.
