First off, my apologies for this review going up late - was on a 12-hour flight home from London on Wednesday, so wasn't able to see the episode until today.
As Rebels aired its final episode before the movie opens next week, there was no attempt for any pseudo-tie-in to The Force Awakens, ith the show instead ending the year on an emotional, poignant note.
I was legitimately surprised that the end of Ezra’s quest to find his parents ended in this manner. With his dreams showing them imprisoned, it seemed we’d get a big rescue mission to save them and I assumed this storyline would continue in another episode as the half hour went on and he was clearly not physically close to finding them - though it felt right to have Ezra and Kanan back on Lothal for this storyline. The big rescue mission would have been the more predictable path, but Ezra instead getting the harsh -- and yet inspiring, given their actions -- news that they’d died helping other prisoners escape was a powerful route to go.
