Strawberry Bubblegum - Taste = Dull Chemicals

Hi Guys,

So, I took the plunge into making my own e-Liquid.
Bought everything I needed...

I purchased a bottle of Bubblegum and a bottle of Strawberry from Decadent Vapors.

30ml bottle
6mg nicotine
15% Bubblegum
5% Strawberry
50/50 PG/VG mix.

Once I finished making it, I gave the bottle a good shake for about 2 minutes, popped into the microwave for 8 seconds, so it was lightly warm to touch - Gave it another shake for 2 minutes and let it sit in a dark cupboard at room temperature for 12 hours with the lid off.
I then replaced the lid and shook for another 2 minutes and it's been sitting in the cupboard for 3 days now. I took it out this morning to drop some of it into my RDA but the taste was just.... "meh". Quite chemically tasting.

I get the bubblegum and strawberry, but only very light.

Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I've read people mention sweetener, but I'm pretty clueless so was hoping for some tips/advice on how to get the flavors to "burst"

Thanks for reading.

What brand of flavorings? I'd forgo the microwave step. At 15% bubble gum flavoring, it should have blown your tongue off with bubble gum flavor.

As for sweetener, ethyl maltiol or sucralose (liquid splenda) can be used, just a drop or two is all that's needed. I'd let it steep for a week and see how it tastes.

Thanks for your response. Im using 'Bubblegum' and 'Strawberry' from Decadent Vapors

Ok, I'll scrap the microwave part in future - And order some ethyl maltiol. Is it too late to mix it into the juice now?

I have 4x 30ml bottles steeping in the cupboard at the moment - As I said above, they've been in there for 3 days so far.

Ah, Ok so Decadent Vapors makes their own flavorings. You can add the ethyl maltiol at any time.

Try a test, take 1 drop of the flavoring and add it to 10 drops of PG or VG with out nicotine. Dip a tooth pick into it and taste it. Does it taste chemical? If so, it might be an artificial flavor that your tastebuds does not like.

Ok sounds good.
I've just put 3ml into my Kanger Subtank and you know what, the flavour is 100x better in here - I dont even think it needs the sweetener...
I think I know what I've done wrong - I've added too much bubblegum flavouring.

I'm going to make a bottle of 10ml with 5% Bubblegum and 5% Strawberry - And let them steep (no microwaving) for a week and see how that goes.

Appreciate all your tips.

Yeah, smaller sample sizes are best until you get your recipe dialed in. 10ml samples make checking your calculations easy too. Good luck- and keep trying- you'll find your sweet spot eventually!
