Suggestions of batteries i could use for mech mod

The other day a friend gave me his old mech mod, it's "Custom Vapes Masterpiece Cherry Bomber" with a Kraken tank, dual coil. Unfortunately he didn't have a spare battery to give with it, but did tell me that I should get a Sony VTC 4 18650. I did a quick research as to what the 18650 was, and from my understanding that's the size and shape. But looking at the sony brand, i saw it was 3.7v 2100mah where as others I've seen with 5000mah. I'm not exactly knowledgeable with ohm's law, voltages and what not, but I was curious as to if I'd be able to get other brands besides the sony if i wanted to and what would I have to take into consideration since he already knows that this mod uses the sony vtc4 18650. What I noticed as well with this mod is when I tried to look it up, all of the others take 2 batteries instead of 1.

If you are not knowledgeable with basic electronics, safe battery management, and Ohm's law then you shouldn't be going near a mech mod.

VTC4 is the only battery I'd use in a mech mod. It's the highest current rated battery.
Sony, Samsung and LG make all the batteries anything else is a re-wrap and lie about the specs.
Learn ohms law and ask questions so you don't get hurt.

You have a Cherry Bomber Mini, that's why it's a single 18650, not dual.

Although other batteries may be rated at higher Amps and Mahs, they are often times lies or over-exaggerated specs. Efest is known to be one of them. They will have a battery with a 20A CDR and have it rated at 35A, or a 3500mah battery that is actually only a 2800mah battery. This is the reason for everyone always saying stick to Samsung, LG, and Sony, because they are the few who give realistic specs, and have batteries capable of what we use them for.

Your friend, along with most experienced vapers will recommend the Sony VTC4s because they are the only cell with a genuine 30A CDR. This is the safest battery to use in a mech because it gives you the most headroom with respect to Amp draw, allowing lower ohm builds to be fired safely.

Although the VTC4 doesn't have the longest battery life, it has the most available power, so it's the best bet for mechs (as most mech users have grown accustomed to having to carry around multiple batteries).

As others have stated, if you don't know about Battery Safety and Ohms Law, you should avoid the use of a mechanical mod before studying up on all the aspects behind Mech vaping. Study up on Ohms Law (http://www.steam-engine.org/) which is a great tool for all builders.

Yeah for what ever reason I was having a moment and couldn't think of the word mini, then it clicked and sure enough that's what it was lol.

I don't know if it's how I worded my previous post that seems to have ppl mistaken, but i don't plan on building a mech mod, just simply using one that works and was given to me. I was already told which battery to use and I plan on ordering pre-made coils and simply wanted to know if I could use other batteries other than the sony brand (which I plan to get anyway). I'm of course reading bit by bit about the mod and battery safety, just been more preoccupied with studying my programming than dealing with mods right now. VTC4 seems like the best choice

There are a couple others that are 30 amp CDR with less voltage drop, but at the expense of capacity and they aren't that available

The LG HB2, HB4, and HB6 are the best choices. The Sony VTC4 is the next best. The the VTC3.

Very correct. The VTC 4 is not a true 30amp battery. It's a high rated 20amp battery that can be run at 25 to 30amps, but can get very hot. The LG HB series are the only true 30amp batteries out there at the moment.

The wonders of assumption. He doesn't have a spare meter and suggested where I could get one. He also told me to look into ohm's law, learn about voltages, not letting the battery get below a certain level, checking the battery before even putting it in the mod. He also knows that I'm not stupid, him and I go way back and he knows I'm not going to grab any battery and not do research before actually using the mod, hence why I've asked here about the battery in the first place. In my original post, nowhere did I say I was going to use the mod right away and just as my friend (more than likely) guessed, I asked first about it elsewhere besides just using him as a source of information and just because I said I wasn't very knowledgeable in some of the safety of mech mods doesn't mean I'm not looking into it. I'm not exactly desperate to use the mod right now, I have an evod 2 that works just fine for me right now, so I have time to do my research on mods amongst other tasks I'm preoccupied with. So, if you happen to have any links, articles or videos to refer to me, it would be most appreciative, but if you're looking to criticize me for asking some questions then your opinion honestly isn't wanted by me. Btw, he has everything he needs to build coils and a meter. I've watched him do his work and he takes his time and said I'm more than welcome to come to him to replace the coils and cotton, checking the ohms and the batteries. So while he did give me the mod, he didn't leave me high and dry.

I just got my first mech mod yesterday, a single 18650 too. Been reading around battery/ohms/voltages/etc the past week or so, the battery drain tab on steamengine has presets for loads of batteries and quickly gives an idea of safety margins and expectations, might be worth a look.

I went with the 18650 Samsung 25R which are comfortably running on 0.5-1.2ohm coils.
