Warning: Full spoilers for Supernatural: Season 11 below.
Even the most rabid fans of a TV show -- at least one that's serialized -- want to know that its producers and writers are being mindful of an ending. And that's not to say that those behind Supernatural this past year, and those taking the showrunner reins next season, don't have an idea of how it'll all wrap up someday, but "wearing out the show's welcome" clearly isn't a pressing issue as we're now heading into a twelfth season.
Sure, there's always chatter from the stars regarding how they're on board as long as the show still feels vital, but there's a clear consensus that Supernatural's best days are behind it, even for those who still enjoy the show and still enjoy watching the bothers do... whatever. Anything, really. Eat. Search for things on the internet. Make up new FBI names. This series has a core base who would probably love to watch these two actors grow old playing these roles. And I guess I understand that from the standpoint that if neither brother is ever going to die (and seriously, I don't even think that's a viable dramatic option anymore, given the numerous fake-outs and take-backs) then it's only reasonable to assume that they'll be hunting for the rest of their days.
