If you're keen to get the most out of your PlayStation 5, the right gear can seriously level up your setup. Whether you're chasing extra storage with a speedy SSD or diving into the deep end with the headset, there are plenty of ways to supercharge your console. From budget-friendly add-ons to premium kit, there’s no shortage of PS5 accessories worth a look. I’ve sifted through the lot (reviews, specs and much personal experience) to bring you our top picks. Whether you’ve got a standard PS5 or the shinier PS5 Pro, here are the best accessories to consider.

TL;DR – These are the Best PS5 Accessories:

This guide contains contributions by Danielle Abraham.

1. Corsair MP600 Pro LPX

Best SSD for PS5

The PS5 is a beast of a console, but one area where it drops the ball is storage. Out of the box, you’re only getting around 1TB of space (because with system files in the mix, you’re left with under 700GB to actually use). The PS5 Pro bumps that up, but with blockbuster titles ballooning in size every year, you’ll still run out of room before you know it.

Thankfully, Sony was thinking ahead. The PS5 includes an M.2 slot, letting you slot in an extra SSD with ease, and for my money, the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX is the top pick. It hits lightning-fast read speeds of 7,100MB/s and writes at up to 5,800MB/s, well above Sony’s minimum spec. That translates to less time staring at loading screens and more time wrecking shop.

It was one of the first SSDs I recommended for PS5, and while faster drives exist now, they don’t necessarily give you more on console. The PS5 caps out at around 6,500MB/s read speeds, so anything faster is mostly wasted unless you're planning to shift it over to a high-end gaming PC later on. When you consider the price (around $100 AUD for 1TB), rock-solid reliability, and included features, the MP600 Pro LPX stands out as a clear winner.

Every SSD that goes into the PS5’s expansion slot needs a heatsink (things get pretty spicy in there), and without one, you risk thermal throttling. Fortunately, this drive comes with a low-profile heatsink pre-installed, and it fits snugly in the PS5’s tight little compartment. If you end up grabbing a drive without a heatsink, make sure to check out a guide on how to install one properly.

Worried about lifespan? Don’t be. The MP600 Pro LPX uses 3D TLC NAND and has a 700TBW (terabytes written) endurance rating. In plain Aussie English, that means you could rewrite the drive hundreds of times over before it even starts to wear out. Go for the 2TB or 4TB models, and you’ll get even better endurance. Whichever size you choose, it’s built to last well beyond the life of your console.

2. SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless

Best PS5 Gaming Headset

It’s not every day that an IGN reviewer dishes out a perfect 10, but the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless managed to earn those bragging rights. Straight out of the box, the sound quality is top-notch, delivering booming, finely tuned audio that makes games feel truly cinematic. SteelSeries doubles down with full support for the PS5’s Tempest 3D Audio, which is a big reason this is my go-to pick for the best PlayStation headset.

Tempest 3D isn’t just marketing fluff; it actually gives you a serious edge. You’ll hear everything from footsteps sneaking through tall grass to distant choppers swooping in, all with pinpoint positional accuracy. It’s the kind of spatial audio that can help you win matches, not just hear them better.

The Nova Pro also packs in active noise cancellation. It’s not quite on par with the best ANC headphones in the world, but it does a solid job of cutting out background noise with a hybrid four-mic setup. If you want to tweak things like the noise cancelling level, game/chat balance or EQ, SteelSeries’ Sonar and GG apps make it super easy to fine-tune everything to your liking.

Design-wise, the Nova Pro Wireless has had a solid glow-up. It now features telescopic arms for a better fit (especially if you're one of those individuals who goes to sleep on a giant pillow) and the slimmer earcups manage to stay comfy without looking bulky. The low-key aesthetic leans more “premium headphones” than “RGB gamer gear,” which we reckon is a win. And the swappable battery system? Even better than before. Each battery lasts between 18 to 22 hours, and they’re hot-swappable too, so you don’t have to pause the action when it’s time to switch.

Hooking it up to your PS5 is a breeze thanks to the included wireless base station, which runs a rock-solid 2.4GHz connection. Just a heads-up, though: it doesn’t support PlayStation Link; so if you're chasing that feature specifically, you might want to check out the Pulse Elite instead. Still, with Bluetooth and wired options also on deck, the Nova Pro has flexibility covered. With all that in the mix, it’s easy to see why this is my top pick for PS5 gaming headsets, hands down.

3. PlayStation PSVR2

Best VR for PS5

Weirdly, I seem to be one of the resident IGN experts on the PS VR2, and on most given days I can show you the helmet hair and sweat stains to prove it. Right at the launch of this device, I got handed a big drink of water and was asked to whip up A Heads On Guide to the PlayStation VR2 Games to Consider First. Now that we're well beyond the launch phase, I've kept my VR sea legs sturdy with another living and constantly expanding list of yet more outright must-own PS VR2 games.

As for the device itself, you'll be buying into 3D audio, eye tracking, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, finger touch detection, and more. What does that mean in layman's terms? In a game like Resident Evil 4 Remake, you will need to physically grab a pistol from your hip holster, snatch a mag from your ammo belt, slap it into the handle, and then chamber a round with a slide yank before some mutant can chew your face off. If time's too short to do that, maybe unsheathe a knife instead and physically bury it in their eye.

Either way: Sat-is-fying "there-ness" that cannot be adequately explained in words. You really need to try VR to get the potential of it. Also, to see if you have a natural tolerance for it. I have mates who still can't stomach certain VR sub-genres (or at all) after years of trying to acclimatise to them.

If you can handle it, though, the PS VR2 has great specs for the price, offering two 2000x2040 OLED displays, 4K HDR visuals, and intelligent eye tracking. Last but not least, it's no longer bound to just the PS5, thanks to an adapter that makes it play nice with gaming PCs. You've gotta love future-proofing.

4. PlayStation DualSense Edge Wireless Controller

Best PS5 Controller

As an owner-operator of a DualSense Edge since it very first launched, I can confidently tell you that I cannot go back to standard DualSenses now. After five generations of PlayStation consoles, we’ve had controllers with rumble, motion sensing, built-in microphones, haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers. The last frontier Sony hadn't explored was the realm of premium-designed (and priced) controllers, and they knocked it out of the park with the Edge.

The short review version: it's ludicrously well-built and bristling with physical doodads (and a deep software suite of menu-based tweaks) to tailor your input experience. It's all akin to fine-tuning one's favourite hypercar in Gran Turismo 7. Potentially game-changing and match-winning stuff. BYO skill, of course.

Comparable to the Xbox Series X’s Elite 2 controller, this features three types of changeable stick caps, mappable back buttons, and adjustable trigger lengths. It’s designed to be customisable to game genre type. If you’re playing an FPS that requires fast-paced movements, you may prefer to set the travel distance on your controller’s triggers to be shorter, for example.

Fold in remappable buttons and easily accessible profiles that one can switch to at any time, and the DualSense Edge truly is a top-tier (albeit pricey) controller that has few rivals across any platform you care to mention.

5. PowerA Twin Charging Station

Best Charging Station for PS5

Fiddling around with cables or swapping out batteries? That’s yesterday’s problem. The PowerA Twin Charging Station offers a fuss-free way to keep your DualSense controllers juiced up, and better yet, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

It’s a no-frills setup, but it does the job brilliantly. This compact dock holds two controllers at once and doesn’t hog space on your desk or entertainment unit. LED indicators on the front let you know when your controllers are charging or good to go, so you’re never caught flat when it’s game time.

Just drop your controllers onto the dock overnight, and by the time you’re ready for another session, they’ll be fully charged and raring to go. Simple, tidy, and reliable; exactly what you want from a charging station.

6. Dbrand Darkplates 2.0

Best Faceplate Alternative for PS5

The PlayStation 5 has a clean, futuristic design, but let’s be honest, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. While you can’t reshape the console entirely, you can give it a visual upgrade with a set of custom faceplates and the Dbrand Darkplates 2.0 are easily one of the best ways to do it.

These plates came about after Dbrand had a bit of a legal stoush with Sony over the original design. The result? A redesign with rounded edges and a fresh look, available in black, white, or retro grey. They’re not the flashiest on their own, but Dbrand lets you personalise further with centre skins and light strip decals to properly tailor the console’s vibe to your setup.

Swapping the plates on is dead easy as they click into place without any tools, and they’re cleverly designed with mesh ventilation to help improve airflow and keep temps down during heavy gaming sessions. All the ports stay accessible, so it’s all upside.

And here’s a cheeky bonus: the inside of each plate has Sony’s cease-and-desist letter to Dbrand encoded in binary, which is a pretty amusing bit of corporate trolling. Just keep in mind, these plates don’t fit the PS5 Pro. So if you've got the newer model, you’ll want to look elsewhere.

7. Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel

Best PS5 Racing Wheel

Being a consummate petrolhead, I’m no stranger to steering wheel peripherals. There are ten or so littered about my (actual) garage, from the rubber-banded awfulness of Mad Catz’s PS One efforts to my ol’ faithful Logitech G29. I’m also armed with modern context, too, having sampled many a lap with the G Pro’s closest Thrustmaster and Moza branded competitors.

All that being said, my mind was blown by the G Pro experience, especially when it's paired with a PS VR2 headset and Gran Turismo 7. You can chalk most of that praise up to the incredible feedback and precision of the G Pro and the unbeatable "there-ness" and track connection that only VR can provide.

But hey, even if you're just going to flat-screen your racing sims, this wheel still impresses with its superb build quality and wrist-rattling 11 Nm of force feedback. To give you a layman’s idea of that, it’s how much the wheel will fight you if you get too sideways (or wrapped around a barrier). At 2.2Nm, Logitech's previous GOAT, the G923 wheel, was a piddly little lightweight compared to the Mike Tyson stylings of the G Pro. That's why the price of admission is so steep; that's why it's worth turning the key on.

8. KontrolFreek Call of Duty: Warzone Performance Thumbsticks

Best Thumbsticks for PS5

Snappy reflexes are everything in shooters, and one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to sharpen your edge on PS5 is by upgrading your thumbsticks. The KontrolFreek Call of Duty Warzone Performance Thumbsticks are a budget-friendly upgrade that can genuinely make a difference when every split second counts.

These stick extenders boost your grip and give you more control, helping you aim with precision and react faster in the heat of battle. The added height means less effort is needed to move your sticks, so whether you’re snapping to a target or spinning around to return fire, every movement feels quicker and smoother.

KontrolFreek also has a stack of different styles suited to various game genres, so it’s worth grabbing a few sets depending on what you’re playing. And since they won’t put much of a dent in your wallet, it’s an easy win for better control without breaking the bank.

9. PS5 Media Remote

Best Remote for PS5

Ditch the controller juggling and streamline your setup with the PS5 Media Remote. This handy little gadget lets you control both your PlayStation 5 and your TV from the one remote, making it a breeze to flick through your favourite streaming apps like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and Spotify.

You can even boot up your console with it, so there's no need to dig around for your DualSense or unplug it from the charger. And if your telly plays nice, you’ll be able to adjust the volume and power settings too, which is a nice touch when you're settling in for a binge session.

It might not be the flashiest accessory out there, but it’s practical, dead simple to use, and won’t sting your wallet. If you're someone who uses their PS5 as an all-in-one entertainment hub, it’s a smart pick.

10. PlayStation Portal

Best PS5 Remote Play Device

Though I still mourn the early death of the handheld ironically named Vita, when the PlayStation Portal was announced, I found myself ready to love again. We can chalk some of that up to me just being a sucker for a sexy screen, like the vivid 8-inch tiltable sported by the PlayStation Portal.

While the Portal’s form suggests it should be tightly grouped with its aforementioned PS predecessor, closer comparison reveals its function is more remote. Literally. This is a second screen for your PS5, rigidly and specifically. A TV-freeing companion piece. If you wish to start gaming metres away from your PS5—or still close because it’s just your telly that’s being hogged—configuring a Portal to achieve this is a cinch.

Very obviously, this is basically a DualSense sandwiched on either side of a gorgeous 8-inch (60 FPS @ 1080p) LCD, so you’re gonna notice some extra heft. Personally, when I switch from my 325 gram Edge Controller experience, the 529 here gets noticed for a minute or so, before my brain accepts and largely forgets about it.

One important final note: it offers no Bluetooth support, and the PS Portal is really only as good as your Wi-Fi, so having a great gaming router and ISP can be helpful. If you want to play the Portal outside of your home, it’s possible, but the Wi-Fi you’re connecting to can't require a web browser to log in.

How To Choose a PS5 Accessory

Not every bit of PS5 kit suits every player. What’s a game-changer for one gamer might be dead weight for someone else.

The golden rule? Check compatibility. Is that SSD fast enough for PS5 games or just storage space? Do those cans actually take advantage of Tempest 3D Audio? And most importantly, will it actually make gaming more fun?

Before splashing your cash, read a few reviews. There are plenty of cheap knock-offs out there, but they’re usually cheap for a reason. If gaming’s more than a weekend hobby, it’s worth getting gear that lasts and lifts your experience – not just clutters up your space.

PS5 Accessories FAQ

Does the PS5 need additional cooling?

Yeah, nah. Not really in most normal circumstances. The PS5’s built-in cooling does a solid job on its own. You’ll see plenty of third-party fans and flashy stands out there, but most of them are more hype than help.

Some can even mess with the airflow Sony designed, which means you’re better off sticking with the system as-is. When it comes to keeping your console cool, trust the hardware it came with.

Can I buy a USB hard drive for my PS5?

You can, but there’s a catch. USB drives are handy for storing PS5 games, but too slow to run them. PS5 titles need lightning-fast speeds (5Gbps+), which USB can’t deliver.

That said, USB drives work fine for PS4 games, so they’re still handy to have around.

Which brand makes the best PS5 accessories?

Sony’s own gear is built to squeeze every drop out of the PS5, from haptic feedback to 3D sound and slick wireless connections.

But if you’re after variety, brands like SteelSeries, Corsair, and Dbrand have some solid options that won’t disappoint. It really depends on what you need.

When do PS5 accessories go on sale?

PS5 consoles don’t often get discounted to any great degree, but accessories are a different story. The best bargains usually come around big sales like Amazon Prime Day, Black Friday, and PlayStation’s Days of Play.

If you’re patient and keep an eye out, you’ll often land a great deal without breaking a sweat..
