Young Sheldon, a prequel to The Big Bang Theory that centers around a young Sheldon Cooper, has been ordered to series by CBS.
The new half-hour comedy will be broadcast in the 2017-2018 season, with Iron Man director Jon Favreau on board to helm and executive producing the first episode.
The Big Bang Theory showrunner Steve Molaro and Chuck Lorre are the creators behind the new series, which tells the story of a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, played by Iain Armitage, and his life growing up as a boy genius in East Texas who's already in high school.
In addition to Armitage, the series will star Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan. Jim Parsons will narrate the series as Adult Sheldon.
