I came with a device to make claptons simple and fast. I posted it on the ELR forum site where I go by the name NewDrip. Instead of posting the how to again I'm just gonna share a link. I hope this help someone out.

In my modified version I did put a metal grooved tip and it worked much better.

I tried similar why a Protank coil, using it as the tool for the 32g and it was a disaster. Wasted more wire in 10 mins that I would have in 10 months. But having that coat hangar thing might be the key to keeping the wire from unspooling wildly.

I thought I saw somebody made a nickel clapton? Can't remember where.

You're right. I have it rigged to where the spool doesn't spin freely. It works great tho.
