Turkey wild rice soup.

this recipe comes from a restaurant known for this soup
So suggest ya cut the recipe in 1/2 {{ I all ready reduced it down to this,,}}
yet I like to freeze my left overs in zip lock baggies and lay them flat to stack to freeze.

use a heavy bottom kettle
stove on med
2 1/4 Cup butter
1 cup diced carrots
1 cup celery
1 cup onions
cook until tender

add 2 1/4 cup flour
cook to make rue {thickens the soup}
you have to cook off that flour or it will taste like paste

then add

1 1/2 quarts Wild rice {{ soke over night prior,then drain and add}}
other wise your going to break your teeth trying to eat it.

add 1 gallon water { or i make my own chicken stock from scratch and freeze for latter use}
1/2 gallon milk
1/2 pound of chicken soup base { see why i prefer to make my own stock }
1/2 tablespoon white pepper
1/2 tablespoon Granulated garlic
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
2 Tablespoons parsley
2 Quarts cooked shredded turkey

Optional 1/2# slivered almonds
cook to a bubble then..
turn down the stove
and simmer on low to med low depending on your stove watch for scorch you never wanna scorch milk. and cook till its thick an rich an the rice is tender to eat.

enjoy.

I know what you mean about having to be in the right state of mind for political conversations. I really do. Sign of getting old. And it so severely sucks that people are actually encouraging others to smoke over vaping.

re mixing: I came really close to getting inspired tonight to mix some new ideas, but dinner happened and I didn't get to it. Now I'm sleepy... that's how it goes for me lately. a bit demoralized, if i'm honest, just been making simple, no risk, fruit blends, mostly. Oh--here is one nice one I made sort of by accident and which I'm vaping now. I had some pre-mixed Cap VCV1 i wanted to reduce the nicotine on, so I added VG and a few other things, and after a steep of about 10 days, it started tasting really great. I reworked it into recipe format and here it is--if you like a very rich, buttery kind of thing.

3.5% cap vanilla custard
0.75% WF SC Coconut Custard
0.25% MB Butter My Biscuit
2% FW Butterscotch Ripple
2% FW Creamy Sponge Cake
1% tfa caramel [or use another, possibly safer caramel if you like; FA is good and FW Salted Caramel is closer to the tfa flavor]
0.5 banana cream [you won't taste this in here, probably, but it seems to smooth things out].

Mostly what I taste is creamy, surprisingly buttery, butterscotch custard. There is a slight hint of coconut if you're really looking for it. The MB BMB and FW Creamy sponge cake give it some texture, make it feel like it fills your mouth up in a nice way, I think. It feels like it has a ton of flavoring it, but has only a moderate amount.

I have no good name for it, so let's call it, "coconut custard butterscotch biscuit".
This is right up my alley(that’s what she said)! All the things I love. I’ll be mixing this up!

Talking to the uninformed about vaping is frustrating and tiring!
On the mixing side of things, have you tried any cheese cakes in any of your custards? I saw Wayne Walker’s Kings Custard recipe and he said that cheese cake is the main ingredient. I love that one shot to the point of buying 180ml of it this weekend!

Frustrating and tiring. Couldn't agree more!

There are tons of custard recipes with cheesecake flavors in them. I've mixed a bunch of them (other people's) and cheesecake can definitely help with body, that full-mouth feeling in a vape. Depends on the cheesecake though. My personal preference is to steer away from too much of that kind of flavor unless you want the crust element. Then again, I've heard that INW Yes We Cheesecake (which i've not tried yet) brings a nice cheesy tang without the crust. I stayed away from TFA Cheesecake after originally trying it. It's not the crust that's the problem, there, but the cheesecake formulation, itself is a bit gross IMO, dare I say "pukey". Caps NY and tfa Cheesecake Graham Crust are both good, but both contain prominent crust elements. If you want that, then great. Just be aware.

Has anyone mixed TFA RY4 Double?

I'm not a big fan of tobacco vapes, and this is the only ry4 recipe I've ever mixed:

rpry4 (Rocket Puppy's RY4)

5% ........Perfumers Apprentice - RY4 Double Flavor
0.2%......Perfumers Apprentice - Acetyl Pyrazine 5% PG [that's 0.2% of a 5% dilution]
0.5% .....FlavourArt - Vanilla Bourbon
0.5% .....FlavourArt - Vienna Cream
0.5% .....FlavourArt - Caramel

This is remarkable. Kind of a masterpiece. Doesn't taste like cigarettes or tobacco to me. I'd say it's worth getting ry4 double to try. There's a recipe listing for it on here with lots of comments if you're on the edge.

@DaBunny Thanks for posting that marvelous recipe! We've got a Turkey broth going tonight and gonna try something similar, but with barley and split peas instead of rice. And maybe I can use up some of those root vegetables bought but left out of TG Day dinner. Otherwise it'll be roasted root veggies all week, which I have some mixed feelings about. :rolleyes:

TFA Cheesecake.....:blech:

TFA RY4 is wonderful.....barely a tobacco, more of a caramel/dessert. So yummy. RocketPuppy’s recipe is lovely. Nutty caramel tobacco. Perfect.

That looks fabulous. You must be a helluva cook, Steve. Well done!

I never hear complaints and cooking is what I enjoy doing most in life because there is no better reward than someone enjoying a meal you prepared. I am not a chef I am an X Auto Technician-Shop Owner who is now a Computer Network Engineer. But I enjoy cooking even with 2 days of preparation for Thanksgiving. But I like to eat and I still have a 30 waist 40 years later.

Right on! You da man, Steve. I love cooking too (so satisfying when fam and friends love it!!) but I haven't had a 30" waist since I was 25. What's your secret?

I got some DIYFS Holy RY4 early this year maybe? I dunno.. anyways, it's awesome. It's got that really good caramel flavor with just a tiny bit of tobbacco leaf flavor. I forgot I had it until just now. After I bought it, I read they had to change the formula. I have 2oz here being unused. I'd better get busy with it.

try it by itself, first. i have put some blueberry in with it, good. and some butter pecan, also good.

btw. i tried that 10 month steep vanilla cream tobacco LB = strong ! at the 9% that is on the bottle. i thinned it with some VG, better.

Thanks, I’ll get it at BCF. Now that I’ve missed sales everywhere!

Well, 10 months is a really long time to steep a flavor! I vape that the next day. :teehee:
I mixed it at maybe 5%. It tastes good, imho. Their plain tobacco really does have a berry taste that I noticed after adding it to Crom’s Custard. I was hoping for a smoky taste, but I’ll need Black Fire for that, it seems.

Glad you had a good holiday!

No secret just my metabolism. Getting a little bit of a belly since I went over the Speed limit in years but that disappears with a day or two of hard work.

As they say in Brit Coms, you’re over the limit in a built up area or on the highway?

I’m vaping it right now & I’m enjoying it ! Minty creamy.

Yummy. I’m not sure where my mint cream love came from, but I have been craving that flavor. I’d totally forgotten about Andes Mints, though.

Oh, that Peppermint/WCP I mixed tastes better, but my tum was not happy about it. I’m afraid to try any other peppermint flavors now!

Did you get the LB one? It’s really yummy! I’ll have to mix it without extra Peppermint and try it. It’s a nice Christmas flavor, imho.

Not sure if I mentioned it, but in MA, we can't even order flavors now. The last time I made a flavor order was October 30th--after the ban, I thought. But now everyone is saying no. I do have plenty of flavors so I'm not too worried at the time being, but it's a little demoralizing nonetheless. The idea that food flavors can be banned because they *might* have something to do with vaping. Blegh.

if ya need help with flavors, lemme know.. I dont mind.. :)

The turkey soup is underway, broth finished except for degreasing. I haven't decided what I'm adding in for veggies, so not yet sure what will be leftover, but here's the list of what I have now:

sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, beets, golden beets, butternut squash, celery, red onion, garlic, brussels sprouts, turnips

I was thinking that whatever I don't use in turkey soup I could douse in olive oil and herbs and roast in the oven for an hour or so. And/or, make a borscht-type of thing--another soup, basically, full of root veg. Might be able to do both, considering the sheer volume.

I only ended up with so much extra because my brother kind of took over TG dinner and made his own stuff. It was fine--less work for me--but left us with a ton of food.

Love to hear any ideas you have, Bunny. (Just as soon as you stop brandishing that spoon. Welp!)

Thanks, Smoky. So sweet of you to offer and much appreciated, but I think I'm ok for flavors for now.

Still waiting to see if my small (test) order of coils from fast tech arrives. They accepted my order, but I've read a few things that suggest they may not be able to follow through. I'll keep you guys updated.

I bought (BF sale) some Flavorah White chocolate to boost the LB peppermint/white chocolate. I'm wanting more like this.. Currently, my mix I taste more peppermint and very little white chocolate. I'll let you know in a few weeks how it turns out. :)

Black Fire or INW Dirty Neutral Base. Black Fire I have to use at like 0.1% otherwise it's all I can taste. Dirty Neutral Base gives more of that ashy taste. I think I like that one better or maybe both together in very low doses.
