The Fast and the Furious franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. While we patiently wait for more news about the next and possibly final film, Fast Forever, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that Universal is taking the opportunity to release yet another limited-edition steelbook of the movie that started it all.
The new 4K Ultra HD remaster is set to release on August 25, just after the movie's official anniversary on August 21, with both a limited-edition and standard steelbook now available to preorder. While Amazon has both editions up for preorder at $34.99 and $29.99, respectively, you can get either edition for about $5 less by ordering through Gruv.
The Fast and the Furious 25th Anniversary Limited-Edition Steelbook Releasing August 25
The steelbook comes with a newly remastered 4K Ultra HD edition of The Fast and the Furious as well as a code to download a digital copy of the film. It also comes with over two hours of bonus features (more on that below).
The steelbook’s slip case features some street-racing action with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor in his 1994 Toyota Supra and Vin Diesel’s Dom Torretto in his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T. Removing the slipcase reveals a pretty wholesome image of the first film’s cast. Open up the steelbook and you’ll find full images dedicated to each of the main duo's cars.
A separate standard edition is also up for preorder for a slightly lower price. This one goes for the classic ‘floating heads’ approach to cover art while still featuring the same iconic cars as the limited edition.
This is far from the first steelbook release we’ve seen for Fast and Furious, but it is a new 4K remaster in a particularly clean steelbook. If you don’t already own it, I wouldn’t judge you for grabbing the latest and greatest edition. What I will note, however, is that this preorder happens to currently be the same price as the full 10-movie Fast and Furious collection, courtesy of a solid Prime Day deal.
Includes Over Two Hours of Bonus Features
The new edition of the film comes with an unsurprisingly massive list of bonus features. The full list includes all existing bonus features from previous releases of the film, including a ton of deleted scenes, behind the scenes featurettes, deep dives into street racing, and feature commentary with director Rob Cohen.
The 25th anniversary release also adds one new documentary: ‘Riding a Legacy: 25 Years of Fast,’ which features Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodrigez, Jordana Brewster, producer Neal Moritz and Meadow Walker reflecting on the history of The Fast and The Furious in Cannes.
Tons of Blu-ray Deals Are Live Right Now
While there are plenty more upcoming new 4K and Blu-ray releases, we’re also officially in Prime Day territory. Amazon has unleashed a massive spread of Blu-ray deals, including discounts on new releases like Weapons and Sinners as well as box sets like the aforementioned Fast and Furious collection and The Dark Knight trilogy.
