Thanks Big N. I’ve been reading some horror stories as well. Glad I got here when I did.Glad you guys are on the mend.
Some younger folks have not bee so lucky, felt sick and ended up deaded in short order like 2 days.
Heard about a guy who lost his fiancé was sick and called in thurs, Friday called her dad and while he was getting in her place she had passed. like 30 minutes from her call to him getting in.Thanks Big N. I’ve been reading some horror stories as well. Glad I got here when I did.
God bless you and your wife. This has quite possibly been the worst week for Mr and Mrs Skt in the history of the skt’s. Wife and I get the flu. She wakes up Friday morning and can’t breath, has a massive fever. I take her to urgent care, they find she has the flu, pneumonia and strep throat. Off to the hospital in an ambulance they send her. She’s been in the ICU ever since on a breathing machine, completely incapacitated.
So I’ve been running around back and fourth to see her and trying to keep the house hold in order and my flu is just getting worse and worse. Our 5 year old has been staying with in laws to keep her from getting sick and ive been sleeping at our house alone.
Last night I was in a massive amount of pain in my back. I was pouring sweat, shivering cold, running a 104 fever and could barely breathe. I tried calling the in laws around 300 in the am but they didn’t pick up so I decided to make my way to the living room and lay on the couch by the fire. That’s all I remember. When I woke up my father in law and fire & rescue were standing over me. I had left barely intelligible messages on my inlaws VM’s saying I wasn’t going to die but I probably might. They rushed over and almost broke down the door before they found the spare key.
So here I sit in a big fancy hospital room with a near fatal blood infection, bilateral pneumonia and the worst flu imaginable. And on the other side of town, my beautiful wife has even more to worry about aside from her health.
On the plus side, 2018 can’t get any worse at this point (sure it can and probably will) so just gotta be positive. Please pray to your respective deities for the skt’s.
Awesome news!!!!!! Glad to hear you’re mending up!Captains log from the SS morphine
Well today was definitely remarkable and in a good way. My lung pump is fully functional and pulling the most disgusting stuff you’ve ever seen in your life out by the bucket load. I don’t know where my lungs have been hiding all this stuff... this is a big deal because all though there is still lots of pneumonia in there (treatable with regular meds and rest) the fluids have to come out before all else. So as long as it’s pumping, no surgery for me.
Rejoice.
I still got my pain and random fevers but that’s what morphine and Tylenol are for. I actually woke up in pain and the nurse just hit me with some morphine about 5 min so I figured I’d take advantage and write an update before it fully kicks in and I’m asleep again.
My dad came by today, who I absolutely adore, and brought a huge amount of food for myself and the staff here. He set a little mini buffet in the corner of my room complete with food warmers and served everyone the best Lebanese food this side of the Mississippi. They were thrilled and him just being here made a huge difference. It wasn’t until he got here that’s the pump started working. I sincerely think his presence played a big role.
So yeah all and all, a great day. Thanks again to all my peeps here. I’ll keep you all updated.

Hoping no news is good news.................
you and your family will be in my thought and prayers for the next few days and continuing on until youre back to 100%.Wish that was the case my friend.
Things once again took a turn for the worst and I’ve developed a sack in my lung that’s holding a lot of infection. It’s not penetrable with the pump, needle or antibiotics so tomorrow around 4pm I go under the knife. The surgery takes between 2-4 hours, then I’ll basically be knocked out with a breathing tube for 24 hours. After I wake up from that they will remove everything and I’ll supposedly be better. According to the doc, it always works and I’ll notice a huge difference. After the surgery I’m here for another 5 days then home recovering for about 2 weeks.
I was in such terrible shape last night that they hooked me up to a morphine pump this morning and that’s made a world of difference. I’ll also be sent home with a lot of pain meds to manage my recovery. As crazy as it sounds, through all this the pain medication has been my biggest concern. I was prescribed a lot of strong stuff for my crohns for a lot of years. Back in April I quit on my own and have never been happier. My wife will be dolling out my meds and I have flower power to help with any WD’s but I’m still anxious about it. Here's to not getting strung out
I’ll let everyone know how it goes in a couple of days. Thanks again for all the prayers and well wishes. It means a lot.
Man, I feel awful for you. Everyone at work has heard your story, so your also in their thoughts. All my best for a healthy you, again. God love ya.Wish that was the case my friend.

Damn. I was thinking you were on the road home. That sucks.
I hope it gets sorted out.
It’s been a roller coaster and also one of the worst cases they’ve seen so far. Having an autoimmune disease really complicated stuff for the doctors.

What’s up my fellow nerds!
Well, surgery supposedly went really well. The doctor was able to get all the gunk out and inserted four chest tubes that will gradually be removed over the next couple days. It took a total of 3.5 hours and is going to leave me with a really gnarley scar that will be about 8 inches across my back. I’m already working on great stories on how I wound up getting it. I had a breathing tube in during surgery that stayed in so I was unable to talk for a good 6 hours until they pulled it just a min ago. Now it’s just more sitting and waiting. I’m not exactly sure when I’m getting out but I’m told Monday at the latest. That’s perfect because my wife ordered me a RSQ squonker and dead rabbit SQ as a welcome home “surprise”.
Oh as a side note, she was concerned, as am I, about vaping once this is all over. She asked the doctor who told her he’s read nothing that indicates vaping causes respiratory irritation. “As long as he’s not smoking” was his main point. So I have some fancy juice and flower vapes waiting for me when i get home.
Thanks again for all you your concerns, prayers and well wishes. You guys are great.
Glad to hear it went well for you skt, you might well find you have to go easy on the vaping for a bit though
Thanks KP. You are absolutely right. I have new toys and juices to mess with when i get home but back to full on, all day chain vaping? No way for a good long while. This whole thing has left me quite rattled. Who knows, chances are I may end up quitting all together. I’m not taking any chances, my poor lungs have been through enough over the years and the last thing I want is to have them revolt on me.
OMG, I can only imagine so! You had all of us seriously concerned, as well. So happy to hear that things are on the upside for you. Sounds like you had some great people taking care of you. This whole thing has left me quite rattled.
