The Gifted’s “outfoX” delivered a tense and thrilling episode with big stakes and big ramifications for the whole cast. There was a clear focus on all the main plot threads that have been developing all season, taking them in an unexpected and intriguing direction.

It was with great relief that all the cards were finally put on the table in regards to what Lauren and Andy can do. Throughout the whole season we’ve been given teases about their ancestors’ destructive tendencies and watched them learn to use their powers individually, but now we saw firsthand how it all works when they perform a mutant power c-c-combo.
We haven’t actually seen them fire off their combined hand-holding power but it’s clear that it’s enough to effortlessly bring down a whole building. Some of the powers depicted on The Gifted can look a little wonky (which is mostly forgivable on a TV budget), but the effect of Lauren and Andy’s hands glowing and a Beyonce-fan blowing their hair up in slow motion and seeing their vision unifying so they can manipulate the environment around them was next-level awesome. For all the fire, ice, and magnetism the movies have thrown around over the years, we’ve never seen anything quite like this.
